Audio Output on a 32" LCD HDTV

So I love my new Vizio 32" LCD HDTV...it is model VX32L. However, the speakers are not loud enough on the unit itself. I don't have a stereo or receiver...but I am thinking about getting one.

my question is... with the audio output (either rca, or optical out)..will the volume be controllable through the TV? or just through the receiver? I dont want to get yet another remote just to change the volume up/down. I would rather the tv would regulate the amount of signal?

anyone know the answer? or a way I can fix this?

I have external PC speakers hooked up to the RCA's on my TV using a M-RCA to F-minijack adaptor. The speaker volume is still regulated via TV. I don't see why it would be any different if you output it to a receiver.

Does your TV have variable or fixed audio output? It should say on the back, in your TV's menu, or in the manual somewhere. If it has variable audio output, you can control the amount of volume it will send your stereo receiver.

If it is fixed, you could always get a universal remote, program it with all of your devices, then define volume lock to the stereo receiver so the stereo would go up and down when you hit your volume button.

I plugged the tv in my computer speakers (amplified) and the volume is constant no matter what you set the tv to.. so is this idea the only valid one?

What's the manual say?

Typically, your receiver will operate the volume.

the manual makes no mention of the audio out at all

Then it will probably work how I just described. You'll turn down the TV's volume and use the receiver to raise and lower the volume.

If the receiver has a decent remote, it will be able to control your TV as well as the receiver.
