Audio Streaming over LAN

I know this is a bit of a longshot, but I am stuck pretty bad at the moment.

Anyone know if there is a way to configure a streaming audio client that would run alongside VNC? I can't use rdp, due to the clients desired setup. I've been looking into stream audio, however, everything I research ends up being about music/video. I need to stream all audio from the windows environment in realtime 24/7. Anyone know if this even exists?

Environment is a mix of xp/7 machines.

And just what do you describe as 'streaming'? What does 'streaming' mean to you? Its a very heavily abused term these days, so explaining more of what you want to do might get you some better answers.

Is virtualization an option?

PulseAudio is the closest thing I can think of to what you're looking for, although I don't believe it's being developed for Windows anymore and I don't know of any Windows-compatible equivalents.

Could always set up vlc as a streamer. Connect jumper from line-out of PC to line-in jack. Open VLC on remote end - giggity. Would need to forward a port or three though.

I was setting up VLC as a streamer, and it is working. Problem is the clients are REALLY bad with computers, they are a police station dispatch office who need audio from a state police bulletin program as does the sgt on duty. By doing the VLC I know I'm going to be getting phone calls at 4am about the lack of audio. I ended up deciding on log me in pro as it will carry audio and is very simple when compared to the vlc setup.

was excited to see this thread. ive been looking for a solution for YEARS. in my case, every room in the house has a pc and/or tv that is on my home network. i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to play audio on just one pc and have all others pc's play the same audio at the same time (so i dont get weird echos or out of sync sounds coming from every room.

never found a solution. best i came up with was winamp with a shoutcast station... just point all the pc's to that station and it does work, but there is nothing to keep all the clients in sync so even if you do get them close when you first hit play, they dont stay together.

i cant believe nobody has ever made a real program to stream audio over a local lan, but apparently that is the case.
