Audiophiles, recommend some headphones

I already own the Sennheiser HD600 headphones. Now I'm looking to upgrade from them.

I'd like recommendations from the $500-$2000 range. I mostly listen to pop, rock and hip-hop. No jazz or classical. I prefer over-ear.

Very comfortable headphones with awesome sound quality.

First one would need to know the reason you want to upgrade. Otherwise if you have had no issues with quality at the price range for that headset you currently have wouldn't just something like this work.

I'm perfectly happy with the HD600, but I wanted to see if I could tell any difference with higher end headphones. So I figured I'd buy 5-7 better headphones to see what they were like.

Otherwise if you have had no issues with quality at the price range for that headset you currently have wouldn't just something like this work.

Sennheiser headphone grip is very uncomfortable.

Why not look into STAX electrostatic headphones? Something like the Omega II SR-007

prices for stax phones are pretty good currently because of the weak yen but with higher end stax phones you'll probably want a kgsshv(2k+) level amp or better.

I'll put my vote in for some planar magnetics, HiFiman specifically. I have a pair of HE-400's that are run off a Schiit Bifrost Uber/Lyr 2 combo and sound awesome. They're very harsh, though. The HE-560's are significantly more refined, and I hear the HE-400i's are of similar design to the HE-560's but I have not listened to them personally.

Not really sure, the LCD's were out of my price range so I did not put much research into them. I have not listened to any of them.

if you really want tospend two grand on headphones, you would go to a showroom and test them yourself. also, head-fi would be a better forum for that.
