This sub's only $99.99 on Egghead with free shipping. Same item sells for 169 on Amazon, and 159 on buy.com (plus s/h there) or more on other sites. So, it's a no brainer Should be pretty decent for a low-end home theater system.

Though, looks like only 11 left in stock...

If you don't get in on this deal, check out your local Costco B&M. I picked up the AudioSource SW-15 (200 watt amp, 15" sub) new for $99 plus tax. This was about three months ago, but they might still have stock.

Costco, of all places, has impressed me with some of their home audio selection.

Prior to this, I picked up a complete Carver home theater speaker package (2 fronts, 2 rears, center, 150W sub) at Costco for $350 (list $1800) This was after Bob Carver had gone out of business, but his product is great.

Great price (with the free shipping, that is). I picked up a SW-15 from one of the auction sites a few months back - it was $150 - shipped.

A word to the wise when using this and other sub-woofers: I encountered some "transformer hum" while using my previous Sony sub and then my SW-15. I was utilizing a standard speaker cable with RCA ends. I made a cheap (and well-insulated) sub cable by purchasing Radio Shack's 20 foot professional audio cable (well insulated, gold ends, etc.) for $19.99. I split the cable apart making 2 20' lengths. I then purchased a gold RCA coupler for $2.99 to connect the two lengths of cable together making a 40' cable. I then wrapped the coupled end with electrical tape so the connection would not separate.

The end result was that I had a 40' sub-woofer cable of very good quality for a cost of only $23.00. You could get a 12' cable (to make a 24' cable) for a bit less. This cable completely elimated any and all 'hum' that was produced through my sub-woofer. The Audio Source sub is a really great sub -- and blows away the subs made by KLH and Sony, for that matter.

Enjoy!!

hey...i bought a klh 10" 120 watt sub...worked great for awhile...had the humming noise after second day of use....and then all of the sudden....NO MORE SOUND...not even a little snap crackle pop....biggest piece of ish I ever bought...stay away from their subs....cuz the amp on there sux big time....

their satellites are great though, clear, loud, not to much distortion at high volumes...i recommend their satellites or floor speakers...just not their subs...

i ordered the day this thread was posted (weeks ago), and still haven't gotten my sub yet. I've received several emails from egghead saying that I have to wait for the manufacturer themselves, blah blah, a bunch of BS and my ETA is april 17th... anyone else hear from them?

A good quality cable would have *eliminated* the hum.

Yes, the AudioSource sub was a little boomy. Fifteen minutes and $4.00 later, I'd lined the inside with speaker polyfill, and it sounded great. Never had a problem with hum, try a better cable.

My Carver sub rattles a little at high volume (the amp itself rattles, I think). If anyone knows a good place I could send it, please PM me.

I'm going to have to agree with LOTUST on this one: don't purchase this sub, it's crap. Anyone runnign out looking for a good deal on a sub shouldn't expect to pay less than $500 on a decent model. Anyone looking for a sub at costco should'nt be allowed to post audio advice.

For a sub-$500 unit, I'd recommend going with Acoustic Research, specifically the 112ps. You'll be happier in the end.

1) "Velodyne" and 2) "REL". Look for these two brands for 1) "budget subs" and 2) "getting better than budget" subs. Anyone spending $150 on $40 worth of parts should do some reading first.

Audioreview is a great site for consumer reviews, but Joe 6-pack isn't going to know Magnepans from Aiwa's when hooking things up to his Sony-Super-S*it-System. All he'll tell you is that is made a difference.

Try out: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/SoundandVision/index.html

For crying out loud: how can someone purchase audio equipment online without auditioning it somewhere first?!?!?!

Just my (ranting and raving) $.02.

thanks for the advice... i guess im happy i didn't get it then...
it's confusing, at another site, ppl were praising the sub. not exactly praising it, but saying it was good for the price.

Yeah, but Sound and Vision is starting to look like PC Magazine - the companies that advertise in the magazine the most, get the best reviews. Ugh!

Yes, it would be great to spend more than $500 on a sub, but I have three mouths to feed, 2 cars to operate on my salary -- and no credit card debt.

The AudioSource subs are not that bad. I tried the JBL subs and wasn't too impressed.

I have the SW-15 and it can't be beat for the price.I paid $120.00 for it at Costco after reading the reviews for it at audioreview.com.After some fiberglass or polyfill to tighten it up,it will hang with the $400.00 subs no question. It's best used for home theater.I love mine.Really blows the walls down when watching Saving Privite Ryan in DTS.If you mainly want to listen to music you should go out and audition some subs at a hi-fi store.Expect to pay 500 bucks or more though.

$500 is a good reference point for budget subs, you can get decent subs at less than that too, you don't have to go too much above that. The Hsu Labs VTF-2 is a good example - excellent performance for a $499 sub, that hangs with the big guys. Velodyne CT-100/120 are respectable too at their price range. That Sony sub that sells for like $100+ also got good reviews, but I've not personally heard it, so I can't really comment on it. However, if you get even half decent sound at less than $200, than I'd say its a pretty good deal.

Hey if people want to spend less than $150.00 on a sub then by all means buy it. You do however get what you pay for. If you aren't totally into home audio then get these subs... but my recommendation...wait and buy a good Velodyne or something out of a stereo shop and not out of a warehouse.... $.02 spoken
