Looks pretty cool. Wish I can hook up a GH2 guitar and play with that!

Even though it looks like GH with the tracks and colored notes, it really isn't. You steer a little ship to collect blocks. If you have more than 3 adjacent blocks of the same color they disappear to give you points. You also don't want to collect all the blocks you see since it'll overload your columns (max 7 blocks per column?) and you lose points when you overflow. So its a combination of puzzle solving and racing to dodge and acquire the different blocks

You can actually report people if it looks like they're song is drastically different, just from the overall track time + track shape.

Well worth the $8, especially considering you can use any mp3 file in it. I'm having a blast with it.

You can play in Mono mode where you only have to collect coloured blocks and dodge the grey blocks.

For $10, this is a great game. I do find myself wishing for "deeper", more involved gameplay, and for more correlation/sync between the songs and the tracks, but, again, for $10, you can't expect everything. It delivers plenty of fun for the money, at least if you have a good music collection to try out with it.

What I'd really like to see is future games pick up on this concept and run with it; expand the gameplay, and even take it in new directions. There's a lot of fertile ground here.

For me, this is an excuse to finally listen to some of the music in my collection that I never seem to get around to listening to.

I could totally dig some old Iron Maiden or something similar in this. I like Frets on Fire so maybe this would be fun.

It's really good. I've never played any of the color modes - Ninja Mono is so addicting.

Word. I absolutely love Audiosurf.
Tool - Lateralus is amazing in this game. Also, Mute Math - Reset, Mute Math - Control... pretty much any Mute Math and Tool song makes this game friggin amazing.

I'd say that comment sums up youtube more than it sums up AudioSurf.

Although, this is close
The spelling errors are icing on the cake.

As for the game, I played the demo very quickly and then bought the full version. I have not been disappointed in the slightest. Plus it includes the Orange Box Soundtrack! Which I have yet to check out, but with over 60GB of "tracks" at my disposal, it might be a while before I get to them.

I have encountered a couple songs that the Audiosurf engine seems to be unable to figure out. Mr. Bungle's "Carry Stress in the Jaw" comes to mind. Most have been flawless, however.

I always stick to the easy characters myself, as I am just trying to groove to the song and not have to develop a strategy as well.

It is kind of annoying how they send you an email if you are knocked from first place, as I have some pretty obscure music, but there is probably a way to disable that.

While I still have not put as much time into this as GMod, which is the same price, it is definite that I will.

I bought Audiosurf without trying it first based on the rave reviews, I wish I tried it first... I dont see what the joy is and I love rhythm and music games.

Try a fast, loud song. IMHO, the game is boring with slower tunes. Anything above 200 congestion is about right, preferably with a downhill slope the entire way.

I tried the demo and it's just weird. I really don't like it at all. The gameplay doesn't make much sense. I'd prefer if it skipped all the color-coding aspects and the stack-up-like-colors aspects and just did a straight rhythm game formula where you just have to hit all the notes.

As it is, I can't ever figure out what the heck I'm doing, and it all seems completely random and unrelated to what's actually going on in the song. The song is just background music that plays while I'm also playing some weird, nonsensical "game."

And I also like rhythm games.

Yeah, you pretty much summed up my feelings perfectly. I really should have tried the demo first...

I gave it another shot and this time stuck to only playing Mono, and it was a lot better. And actually, after I did that, I learned that pretty much everyone just plays Mono.

Anyway, if you only do Mono and nothing else, it is better. The notes still don't have a whole lot to do with the song, unless it has a REALLY strong beat, but even then, the game is only very weakly linked to the speed of the song and doesn't have much to do with the rhythm at all. It's just faster when the song is faster and slower when the song is slower.

The key is to have good songs. Loud classical music works astoundingly well as long as it is fast, so don't do Bach harpsichord. More like Beethoven's 9th and 5th. Good electronica with climaxes and really intense parts. Throw on some tracks from Hallucinogen's Twisted...

My brother showed me this game the other day and I ended up buying it off Steam after "trying" it. Oddly enough, after I legally obtained the game, my Arial font messed up and I had to fix it... see what happens when you actually pay for software?

But it's pretty fun overall. I really enjoy good music and frankly one thing I like in this game compared to something like Guitar Hero is that the music is prominent. I hate how in Guitar Hero, I'm playing a song and I can't hear the lyrics or half of the other stuff... only the guitar. Yes, it is Guitar Hero, but I LIKE MUSIC. Guitars are not the only part of music for me. But anyway, back to Audiosurf. I found that playing the game with some really crazy techno songs is pretty exhilarating. I play on umm the second easy mode (the one to the right of Mono). It actually gets pretty fun when you start trying to get a little bit of strategy involved. The only hard part about strategizing is that it's more luck than anything. You don't know when a paint block will come, so you won't know to purposely stack different colors. The same can be said about the black block as it's easier to let there be nothing in that row rather than trying to clear the stuff blocking it (as you cannot forget, a paint block will also remove the black block, which is probably worth more ).

I think my favorite song to play so far was Vitalic's My Friend Dario. Other than it being a rockin' song, it was pretty intense at some points.

I wonder if there's any plans to port this on XBL? It's already got the $10 pricing on Steam (same as the 800 MS points).
