augh my laptop died - any ideas?

Every time I try to turn on the computer, it powers up for a few seconds, and I hear the hard drive spin up (and the dvd spin around if my dvd drive is plugged in), and then it powers off again, waits half a second, then goes through the cycle again
this happens until i unplug the laptop from the battery and the power cord

Has anybody had this problem before??

Also, does anybody have recommendations on laptops or pointers to decent comparisons?

Is it a dell?

Dell has sent my mom two replacements and they all suck. Same problems everytime. Wont power up when you turn it on. You press the switch and starts then stops. The monitor on my sisters dell laptop went out after one year.

but it's really weird that you have the exact same problem.

damn you just had to go and say it was a quantex. Mine had better not go bad anytime soon cause aren't we screwed when it comes to service, because they are out of business now.

I think it is the power switch. My mom keeps telling dell that and they keep telling her it is a hard drive..go fig.

It could also be ram. See if you can switch it out with some one else.

Probably the OEM provider for Quantex and Dell are the same( and thus have the same problems).
