Austin, TX help needed!

I know I'm probably late to book a hotel room for a Saturday night near Austin's Sixth St., but I'll be flying in to hang out with my brother who is stationed at Ft. Hood before he is deployed....

Could someone familiar with the city list a couple of hotels? Google isn't helping me, all the hotel sites seem to be laid out very poor for looking up properties by location.

I was hoping to keep it around $200 (I know some of you might be LOL'ing at that, it's probably like $300 plus) if we stay literally ON Sixth St., if we have to stumble a couple of blocks back, then I wouldn't mind paying a little less...

ALSO...If we stayed away from Sixth St. and took a cab down, is it hard to find cabs on Sixth St. during Saturday night? We'd probably be leaving around 1:20 or so before the bars close at 2.

can't really help too much w/ the hotels part, but 6th is crawling w/ nonstop cabs on the weekends to help get drunks home so you shouldn't have much of a problem at all with that.

hilton hotel on 5th.

6th is closed on weekends due to PARTY!!! cops on horses will be around to monitor drunk cowboys. you won't be able to grab a cab on 6th during weekends. grab one on either 5th or 7th.

Just trying to dot my I's and cross my T's before I head down there. In this thread I've been told cabs are crawling on 6th, then I was told there were none on 6th and I'd need to go to 5th or 7th.

Your insightful sarcasm sure makes things a lot clearer though, thanks!

well technically juno is right, the cabs don't actually go on sixth but they are on every single street that hits 6th, plus all surrounding streets parallel to it.

There is a La Qunita Inn at the corner of E 11th St. and San Jericho Blvd. It's $130 for a Saturday night. If anybody is familiar with that area, what kind of drunk walk "home" would that be after Saturday night festivities?

Thanks hdeck! Okay, that makes sense now. Being an Austin first-timer I didn't realize the street was closed.

should be, that's the only one i know of.

it's a little bit north, i've had to park about that far a couple of times (i refuse to pay for parking)

Sorry, yes, meant San Jacinto. The map text was warped, and I had just glanced at it. Thanks for the help guys, looks like I've got a couple of options to look into! The Hilton was $240, the Driskill? isn't taking reservations, and I think there might have been an internet special for the Sheraton for ~$200.

Sorry about the cab confusion, just trying to have a gameplan set before I get out there.

Lived in Austin for 3 years, 11th & San Jacinto isn't a bad walk from 6th street...or you can take a car or pedi-cab (sp?). There are a ton of hotels up & down 35, I usually have good luck with Priceline getting rooms near I-35 & Ben White for around $60-$70/night. If you're taking a cab from 6th Street, it's only 10 minutes to that part of town.
