Mercury raised my rates for no reason...something about a group discount rate change for engineers...instead of 450 for 6 months, its now 504 for 6 months...

trying to find a cheaper one; residing in southern california...

anyone have wawanesa as their insurance provider? ...i heard they are cheap but very hard to get approved by them...

Asking this question on a message board is kind of pointless. Insurance companies take so many variables into account when setting rates that there will never be a clear best choice for everyone.

Having said that, I recently switched from Farmers to Amica. My yearly policy renewal was up last month, and Farmers wanted to increase my rates by nearly $100/6 months, despite me having a perfect driving record. They said it was just a "general, company-wide increase in prices".

Amica beat Farmers original price and gave me better coverage. I also switched my renter's insurance from Farmer's to Amica, and they charged less than half of what Farmers was charging, and gave me better coverage.

I just switched from Progressive to AIG. Even with a d-dub on my record I went from $580 to $260 for 6 months. And that is for 2 vehicles, 96' Jeep and a 00' Toyota.

Wait a minute - you have a DWI on your record, and pay $260/6 months for 2 vehicles?

I've got State Farm currently. I have a clean record (last ticket I got was about 6 years ago for speeding.) I save about $400 every year vs Liberty Mutual. Geico and AIG gave me similar quotes. Allstate was a bit more expensive than Liberty mutual. But, every person's going to get totally different quotes from every company, so as other's have said ... just because one person saves with one company, it doesn't mean squat for what your rates would be.

Coming up on 9 years with State Farm. Clean driving record. Paying $550-ish / 6 months for full coverage on an 03 Impala.
