Auto sync backup software?

My boss has a portable USB hard drive, what he would like to do is have a specific folder (i.e. My Documents) that, when he plugs his portable HD in to his PC, it takes the files in that folder on the PC, compares them to the files on the portable HD, and whichever file has been modified more recently is copied to the other location.

Does anyone know of any software that can do this, or should I just tell my boss to copy the whole folder to the portable HD every night and vice versa in the morning?

For the synchronization part of the problem, you could try SyncToy from Microsoft. I'm using it to keep my iTunes library synchronized between two computers.

Synctoy is perfect and I use it to setup folder profiles that get sync'ed to my external HD. Unfortunately, the interface isn't very deep, but Syncback Free works great if you want to have more control over the backup process.

I'm currently using FolderMatch, but I've never heard of the above suggestions, so I'll be checking them out as well.

I'm using a program called Super Flexible File Synchronizer

However, it isn't free.
