Automate Spybot, Adaware, etc.

Is there an easy way to make them run automatically on some sort of a schedule? I'm tired of updating all of our office computers one at a time and then waiting for all 15 to finish. If anyone knows a solution that would be great because it takes too much time to do this on each machine every week.

Try pulling their admin rights and see how much your spyware levels drop. Seriously that will make your life much simpler.

Ad-Aware pro/plus is potentially what you want. It does have some auto-scanning capabilities built in to it. You could also write a simple batch script that automatically copies out the most up to date ref file to all your desktops (as long as they're turned on) and see if you can set ad aware to auto run a scan once a day using the scheduled tasks or see if both apps have command line flags for auto scanning. You can set at least the free version of adaware to auto scan on startup.

Here is a list of command line parameters that the Spybot-S&D main executable (spybotsd.exe) supports:

/taskbarhide
Runs Spybot-S&D completely hidden (no window, no taskbar icon), so make absolutely sure you use it only in combination with /autoclose (otherwise it would remain in memory sitting idle). Useful only in combination with /autocheck, /autoupdate or /autoimmunize, as it cannot be controlled when completely invisible.
/minimized
Starts the window minimized.
/uninstall
Uninstalls Spybot-S&D. This command line parameter is very outdated - unins00.exe should be used instead!
/blinduser
Starts with support for blind users (special menus).
/autoupdate
Does an update after starting the program.
/autocheck
Starts scanning immediately.
/autofix
Fixes problems after scan.
/autoclose
Closes program after it has scanned or updated.
/autoimmunize
Runs the immunization at program start.
/onlyspyware
Fixes only spyware (red) entries with /autofix, leaving all usage tracks as they are.
/easymode

Ad-Aware Command Line Switches via the SE Professional Help file

Ad-Aware can be operated without using the graphical user interface (GUI). It can be controlled by using command line parameters. UNC paths are supported.

Example:

Ad-Aware.exe /smart +silent +update +nice-2



Ad-Aware will run silently (without the GUI) in the background, checks for definitions file updates before it performs the scan, and then performs a Smart System scan at high priority.

Available command line parameters
/smart
Performs a Smart System scan

/full
Performs a Full System scan

/custom
Performs a scan using Custom Scanning options predefined by the user

/ads
Performs an ADS (Alternate Data Stream) scan and is only available on NTFS enabled volumes
Using /ads alone will run the ADS scan using the parameters (paths) defined in the scan settings
Using /ads with a path as the very first parameter, for example %Ad-Aware.exe% "C:\test" /ads will run an ADS scan on the defined path

Displays a help window with a listing of all the available command line parameters

/help
Displays help on available command line parameters

/paths:"%pathsfile%"
%pathfile% defines a text file which includes a list with paths that will be scanned. %pathfile% can also specify a remote resource.

/sdump:"%destinationfile%"
Creates a file containing status information at the specified location. This command requires a destination file name. Information appended to the file created will include version, build, loaded definitions file, available add-ons, scanning statistics, etc

+archives
Overrides any archival scan settings so that archives are scanned

-archives

+auto
Performs both scanning and removal in full-automatic mode using the automatic quarantine and log file settings defined by the user

+cskip
Skips the conditional scans

+delay
Activates delayed loading

+procnuke
Performs an aggressive memory scan. Ad-Aware will try to unload/terminate the process/module and immediately delete it. This is required to handle reciprocal processes for example. It also unloads explorer and recognized modules during the removal, regardless of whether or not the tweak options are set

+ref:"%file%"
Uses user-defined definitions file for the scan. The full path and file name must be added in quotes

+remove:n
n must be a number between 0 and 10. If used in combination with the /auto parameter, only content that has an equal or higher TAC index will automatically be removed

+retv:[out]
Returns the highest TAC rating of all objects found as exit code

+safeload
Loads the minimal configuration required for Ad-Aware SE to operate. Skips loading of cache files, ignore list, plug-ins and extensions. If there are problems launching Ad-Aware SE the conventional way, use this command.

+sd
Sends command to running instance of Ad-Aware

+silent
Runs Ad-Aware without showing the graphical user interface and scans automatically without removing any detected objects

+update
Checks if a new definitions file is available and downloads it on Ad-Aware SE startup

Thanks works great in Spybot. Haven't been able to get adaware to work yet. It just opens and doesn't start scanning so I'll have to play around with it some more.

I've used the switches for Ad-Aware once or twice to auto apdate and scan. I think the issue i had with it was that id didn't want to autoclose Adaware. My system started to run slower untill I had to kill the process manuelly.

Unfortunately I do not have the file that I wrote to do this anymore. Sorry.

Panda BusinessSecure is the greatest thing since sliced bread if you're running all fairly new XP machines. It is fully administerable from a central console, updates daily, and practically obliterates both spyware and viruses, even spam and fraudulent emails. It's GUI is buggy as hell, though.
