Automatically Email

Is there any type of software that I can use to automatically send an email based?

For example, I would like to check for a file every so often, and if that file exists email it to my self. I can write a batch file to do the checking, but I am not sure how to email the file in the background or from the command line. I can send via SMTP or IMAP.

if you are familiar with any scripting or programming languages you should be able to write something fairly easily to handle this. I work with .net and it wouldnt take very many lines of code to write something to do this. I also work with python as well. And it would also be not too difficult.

Easiest thing to do though would be to check with whatever email client you use and see if it accepts any command line parameters. You might be able to just pass it the file name and TO address and have it send your email. Might also want to check some of the free clients available (thunderbird, eudora, etc etc)

thanks for the input. I currently use Outlook as my email client, but I will look into the others listed to see if they offer a command line option.

If you can do the batch file to check for the file, i suggest something like mailsend to send an email - i use it alot at work for similar things.

I don't know if it is still available, but there was something called beehive that would check and do something (email, page, fax or phone) if a file changed in a predefined way.

Wannyfly, mail send is exactly what I am looking for. My only question would be, how do I specifiy a password if I need to login to the smtp server?
