Autoplay CD drive

For some reason my cd-drive and dvd-drive no longer will autoplay any type of disc when I insert them. Nothing happens, no box comes up with choices nor does it start playing automatically. I can not see the option to choose autoplay when I right click on the drive any more either.

So my question is, is there an option somewhere that disables autoplay and how do I re-enable it. I have been looking all over the place. The only thing I could find was to right click on the drive and go to properties and look at the autoplay tab but it is set on prompt me to choose an action.

Sounds like its a corrupted installed, that sucks.

What do you mean corrupted installed. Do you mean when I installed the drive because they have both been working fine before but just recently autoplay quit.

Try this: start>run>gpedit.msc>OK>computer config>admin templates>open the system folder>double click "turn off autoplay"> click the enabled button> apply>OK> restart. Taken from MaximumPC magazine September pg 62. WTH it's worth a try.

Just check wheteher you have auto insert notification turned off in your CDrom properties. You can access it thru= Control Panel-System=Device Manager. This could have happened if you have installed one of the latest CD Burning software. Pl. Let me know

Well I tried that, it was disabled which seems correct but I gave it a shot. No luck there.

Not sure exactly what you mean. I know how to get to the device manager but under properties for my cd and dvd drives I don't see any optoin about auto insert notification.
The only program I have installed is PowerDVD but that is just for playing dvds not burning. I have alcohol and nero on my comp but I have had them installed before I had the problem. I did update to a newer version of nero however, could that have done it.

yes that could be the reason. All new Neros work better wit Auto Insert Notification Off. It also pops a message during installation in order to proceed automatically. You could have overseen the message. If you know how to go to device manager, goto CDROM and right click for properties. In that check for Auto Insert Notif. It has got to be there.
