I just got finished following this tutorial..

http://www.ehow.com/how_5178699_add-input-toyota-corolla-stereo.html

It works really well. You remove the stereo and solder wires from a headphone extension cable to the radio board. The CD player connects to the board with a ribbon, and there are exposed pins allowing you to solder on L/R audio and ground. You just flip a CD upside down, plug in your audio device, and the audio will play through the speakers. I have my input cable tucked away so it's not visible.

For those looking for a cheap solution to aux input, this really did the trick. Next step will be burning a blank audio CD with CD-TEXT that says "Aux Input" to give it a more professional look on the radio itself. As it stands with the CD upside down, the radio blinks "Error 1" while the audio plays.

** UPDATE 11/06 **

Just got my dock and charger installed, so I now have line out and power when I plug my phone in.

Here it is from the front.

This is a side view, showing the velcro I used for mounting.

This is it closed up, looks like stock.

And I charge it in the center console. I have a usb charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter in there, and a USB extension cable that I run out of the center console. The iPod charging cord runs behind the front console, and along the side where the center console is. It's all tucked in and hidden, and I connect the two cables underneath my seat where you cant see.

For future updates I am thinking of trying to install it on some rails, so that when I open the door it slides into proper position. This is definitely more of a challenge than the velcro, but it's doing the job for now. I also want to look into hard wiring the charger in so I don't have to run the cables.

Hahaha, that sounds like a true ghetto mod.
Sounds like it would work perfectly too.

It is, and it does. Even if I had the option to use a tape > aux input, that audio quality is awful. FM transmitters are also not known for good sound quality. This taps straight into the stereo and passes the signal with no quality loss that I could tell, and it's free (if you have the parts like I did.)

I wonder if something similar could work for my 2000 Honda Civic EX. It would be nice to have an aux input instead of using an FM transmitter... >_>

By some quick googling I found this..

It's geared towards an '00 model, but people in the comments are saying it worked for older and newer cars than that. This mod also requires you to buy non-standard parts so it's not as cheap as this one. Give it a look and let us know how it goes.

I did this to my 06 Corolla, but I bought a PIE-TOY box. It plugs into the back of the radio, in the CD changer port, and has 2 sets of RCA inputs. Works really well, and I have one input for my phone, and the other for Sat radio. Just click disc to switch between the 1 CD, and to the aux in. Track 1 is Phone, Track 2 is Sat.

Your solution is a more difficult, yet cheaper. Good job on the install

BTW, 03-08s are considered 9th gens, 10+ are 10th gens

If I bought a PIE-TOY box, would it work on my 06 Corolla that has the standard (not 6 Disc) CD player?
