Well you have to read carefully when looking at tests. If you see the latest report from AV-Comparatives Avira does not get highest rating and yet detection is still very good, as always. A few FPs and they take away stars and medals. I dissagree with that, as long as FPs are not that many!, but you have to dig in and understand how review is made, what they evaluate and how they weigh features. AV-Comparatives at least make an effort in presenting their views. Seems to me they are becoming soft though - praise all products in test, users(buyers) can be safe with all products but here are our results..." Dont know about that. Too friendly, if so focused on test they will not approve of low ratings! but nm, still good site. A magazine is more likely to skip over the technical stuff, just say "we tested same samples as we did with X product" or whatever. More of a review of the user experience, from installing to removal of infection - if done properly... Also counts, may be more even.
Actually the test I refer to is not for Premium package so not relevant but same goes for that when hunting down reviews and oppinions. Also a good idea to take a look at official support forum. Can give hints to state of current situation. And you should install a trial version. Some GUIs or ways of funtioning you might hate no matter what name is on the box. Even more important with big suites, you should feel at home and use features not go yikes.
