This might be semi-old news to some of you, but for most of the people that do not keep up with PC Security this should give you an idea how your current AV stacks up against the competition.

AV-Test.org, an independent testing group at the Otto-von-Guericke-University (Magdeburg, Germany), tested 29 anti-malware products with a very large set of files (606,901 to be specific). The goal was to test detection capabilities only, not cleaning. Products were set with their most aggressive detection options, such as using all heuristics and testing inside archives.

In the test set were:

* 68,864 backdoors
* 407,487 Trojan Horses
* 47,891 bots (zombies)
* 82,659 worms

Notice that spyware/adware detection is not included. Results...

*spoiler* eTrust is the biggest loser!

So...was this a "fair" evaluation?

According to one commentator, the test set is mostly "malware", while the client software are mostly "virus" detectors.

The other piece of it is: Why was WebWasher included in the testing? (It's not client software at all)

Do you have a link to the actual results, I've seen these before but don't see any links off the home page you posted.

AV only scanners are dead.

I assume that is AVG Malware that they tested with? If so, AVG Free is going to have a significantly lower detection rate than what they have portrayed AVG as having in that test (especially in the trojan department, as AVG free does not include the Ewido scanning engine like AVG AntiMalware, which is used in the majority of these detection tests).

Also, what AV engine(s) is AVK 2007 using?

I am not sure how to acquire the detailed results.

AVK uses Kaspersky and BitDefender engines.
