I swapped to avast recently. Can't say its any better or worse than MSE because I never noticed either.

it is much much much better. in fact, it is one of the best free AVs out there sometimes even doing better at catching viruses than the paid products, just look at its score in AV Comparatives results

I'm a lurker on this forum and generally just enjoy reading the many informative threads, but berryracer, you annoy me so much with your flavour of the month fanboyism, total lack of objectivity, leet speak that has been stale for a decade and unexplainable hatred of certain products I felt obliged to post.

I notice from browsing Wilders Security Forum, you don't seem to even be able to form your own opinions, either that or you're too lazy to type.

Comodo has a mind blowing result in both protection and performance!

And my personal favourite complete with copied typo

MSE was the real loser, that's the worst I've ever see it do since it made it's debut in 2009

Please don't regurgitate other people's posts as your own opinion, I'm sure you can manage writing some original content when you're not throwing darts into a picture of the MSE icon

Don't be too hard on the boy. I think he just doesn't know how to look at more than one place for information. Kinda like having (or trying to have) a political discussion with someone who gets all their information from one TV channel.

I did put a at the end so it's okay

Seriously though, berryracer I don't hate you or anything you just come across as extremely arrogant and unwilling to listen to anyone who's viewpoint differs from yours. Perhaps a more balanced and diplomatic tone may help somewhat.

I agree Berry, ESS uses around 100 MB of my RAM. Overall my PC runs about the same with or without ESS. Other products I've noticed some impact on always accessing my HDD or causing high CPU usage. I rolled out Eset to around 2000 workstations back in 2008, and it has worked well over the years jumping from Version 2.7 and 3.0 back then up to Version 6 now migrating off Symantec. MSE is better than nothing at all of course. I think there are better free alternatives like avast. Symantec has improved a lot over the years because of all the competition. Kaspersky I've always liked too, and we have around 800 PCs using it at a different site. All of them will miss certain zero days so it's best to implement limited user accounts and software restriction policies along with using something like qradar that IBM just purchased.

MSE was good in its hayday, but now most virus/malware just blasts past it like it wasn't there. Most of the virus ridden system I repair has MSE on them (I own a computer repair shop). I don't know why some of you are flaming OP when you obviously have no experience with more than few computers.

I never got that too, thank you for your comment you're like the only one who see my point here. The others are acting as if I offended a member of their family just by showing the truth.... (ie. the results chcart) I didn't make these tests up and despite the not low but horrificly sad and pathetic results, their defense is these are just lab generated viruses and none of them will encounter the average joe computer users. but as you said. most computers we fix have had MSE on them and got hit by a virus I tried it on my sister's computer and it failed at even deleting simple key gens. Everytime I" chose delete, it would tell me it found the viruses again and its the same keygen I just told it to delete...

the funny thing is ,these weren't even real viruses, just false positives as they weren't detected by Kaspersky or Bitdefender so my point is here, it fails to even remove the simplest of false positives!

Also..
RAM usage of an AV doesn't define how light it is. be it 50 MB, 100 MB, or 150 MB is not gonna make a diff. really, what really matters is how the scanning engine handles files and how much strain it causes on the system.

+1 for troll..
