Nice find jello. Looks like It's time to pickup the RSC200 Signature and 450's.

Does anyone know if the center can be wall mounted ?

The center is huge, and heavy. The site lists it at 46lbs..
Dunno if that accurate, but from what i remember this thing was a beast. I dont think wall mounting is an option.

Its an incredible center channel though, none better at this price.

dont mean to thread crap, but you guys are funny, you judge how a speaker would sound by its weight?? it is incredible? have you ever listen to it with your own ears before? to quote someone from avsforum, "Unless the speakers are mail order or internet only brands, there aren't many supporters on AVS." I've been to the av123 forum, and looks like there are lot of 'xxx is awesome, I am saving my money to buy it' hypersters there. How do they know it's awesome, it doesnt sound like they've ever heard them in person before? This is how hype starts, one person that have never heard of the speakers saying that its awesome, and the words get around, next thing you know, everyone is telling everyone so and so is awesome, and yet none of them haven't ever heard it with their own ears. I have no doubt rockets, av123 have OK or maybe even good sounding speakers, or else they won't have this many followers, but I bet most of the rockets/av123 owners didn't even bother to goto any retail store to some audtioning before they bought their speakers based on the hype, and since this is your first pair of so called highend speakers you have, you really don't have anything to compare it to, so you don't really know whats awesome, and what is just OK. (be honest, you know who you are. ). Speakers shoppers, do yourself a favor, go auditon some speakers at your local retailer, educate yourself on what to look for when buying speakers, and buy what sounds good to your ears, not hype.

If you want to wall mount bigfoot (RSC200), it would probably be a good idea to get a stand designed to hold a TV rather than a run of the mill "speaker mount"

The 46 pounds on bigfoot sounds about right. It's made of 1" thick MDF and is quite hefty

richardycc, yeah, judging a speaker based on weight it not really a good idea, but having a good internal volume and a rigid structure to keep vibrations down are two things that most better conventional speakers will have. Just meaning to say that being big and heavy is usually a good sign

I totally agree that demo-ing some different options is a big part of finding the right system to meet your needs. I try to mention that as often as I can in audio threads (which is quite a few )

That said, I know that a LOT of people on Anandtech either don't have the means, desire, or time to go out an audition stuff. There are a lot of people that just say something along the lines of "I want something good for X dollars".

I will admit that I am quite biased towards AV123, but I have also tried a variety of other products. The quality of products I have gotten from them and their quality of customer service is a combination I have come to trust. I know they're not for everyone, but I know that in the real world a lot of people are just not going to go through the process to find the perfect system to meet their needs.

There are a lot of great options out there, but in my own experience, these current deals should be strong motivation for someone to go the AV123 route if they are in this pricerange.

Some crapping (on me since I'm an av123 customer), some good advice. Most internet direct companies offer trials. It's easy to order some, buy the best one at a store at the same price, bring them home, and return the one that doesn't sound as good. You might be out some shipping, but it's worth it. In my case, I purchased the X-LS speakers from av123 based on the "hype" created by winning pretty much every budget speaker of the year award out there in addition to the "hype" created by many different audio forums. I took them home, and they blew away my athena (which were better than anything else) speakers from best buy that retailed for over double the cost. The infinity primus and polk r series and jbl monitors didn't compare well either (There I go, fueling the hype....) But seriously, try out the internet direct speakers and compare them to the store brands. There are better speakers at stores, but usually the cost is much higher. And for many people, the higher end audio is difficult to find locally. Magnolia best buy stores come to mind, but the closest one to me is 2 hours away. People generally want all the review work done for them to save time and they want easy access; therefore, internet direct hype is very convenient and generally safe to go by. Although sometimes hype goes wrong, such as the case with bose......both positive hype from people that have never heard them, and negative hype from people that have never heard them .. it makes no sense.

If I can't find an entertainment center that'll hold my 200 and that matches my rockets when I upgrade my tv(it's 12 inches high so there are few that do), I'll probably get a tv stand like this. It supports 100lbs so it should be safe for the monster center

Any thoughts on the "average" life expectancy of the treated paper cones in the x-ls line?

That would be a good question to get feedback directly from the AV123 guys.

I usually end up e-mailing Sean Parque to bother him with my questions, but a phone call or e-mail to them should be able to get you a good answer to that question.

the treated paper cones shouldn't give you any problem, it's usually the surround might rot or the glue disintegrated. it can be anywhere from 5-20yrs.

lol. yeah i buy my speakers by the pound. Don you know thats the way to do it.

AV123 has an excellent refferal network. Dont know how it works now, but back about 2 years ago, i setup an audition session online.
Was there with 2 others to listen to an owners complete rocket setup, along with another owners reference model he had brought along. Was like a little tupper ware party of speaker dorks.

I brought up the weight of the speakers as it relates to the wall mounting, sorry if I implied heavy = awesome.

As for not auditioning other speakers in person, the set i wound up with B&W CDM 9NTS, were the direct result of auditioning them at a local store immediately following the rocket/reference pow wow.

If you don't mean to thread crap, then dont, esp on products you seem to have no knowledge about. You do a big disservice by implying these are just overhyped internet sprks. If you've ever heard the reference line, you'd see what a crazy deal they are at 600 bucks a pair.

Does anybody know if any of those towers are timbre-matched (to an extent) with Polk LSi 9's?

Sharing the same vifa tweeter means it's probably better than most at matching.

A search for "Polk" on the AV123 forum might give you some better opinions.

But these surrounds are rubber, not foam.

I'd say the drivers should last at least 15 years if they are not treated badly (put in really harsh climates often).

That's good to know Since everything seems to be made of "high tech" man-made materials these days...one wonders if paper cones could possibly be worth the paper their made from. I guess the secret is the high tech material used to "treat" the cones.

i bought jbl l50's in 1978, had to get the woofer re-coned in 1994 (the foam deteriorated) and they are still fine now...

I just receive my reference 1 speakers today and set them up. So far I am very impressed with them. Much better than the Axioms I auditioned recently. Better than my Athena's I have at home for my ht set-up.

Which Axioms did you audition? The only ones I've tried out are the M22s

I tried the M22s as well. Not that impressive compared to the reference 1s.

Hey what kind of speaker stand are you planning to use with the Ref 1s?

Currently I have them on wall mounts. I forget the brand of wall mount, but it has a adjustable bottom that can fit many different speaker sizes. The grips of the mount are padded with a foam rubber. And the mounts are secured with toggle bolts into a plaster/wire mesh wall. The ref 1s are heavy, so if you go wall mounts, I would be cautious and look for a stud.

I tried making an account at the AV123 forums. Do I have to wait a few days before I can post?

On the subject of speaker decay, I recently (finally) purchased a 22 yr old pair of Thiel floorstanders (amazing deal), without any damage. If speakers are well maintained, without foam surrounds, they should last forever driven at medium volumes

Recently the AV123 forums have been getting hit pretty hard with loads of spamming so Sean has started approving each new member. I don't know if he does this over the weekend or not so it may be Monday before your account gets cleared.

I'm looking for rears and centers-I have the wharfedale Opus 1 mains and Opus Tri-center-I picked up all three speakers for $900 a year ago, it was a steal and I couldn't resist-audioadvisor clearance! Retail for the mains is $2600 and the opus tri center $1200!

I'm saving up for a Outlaw Preamp/Amp combo and the matching surrounds.

If I didn't have these I'd be all over that AV123 deal for their reference series.
