I just got my REF 1s, haven't listened to them yet.

Just a quick question, the Warranty for these speakers is only 90 days? and 1 year with registration?

What's a good place to get speaker wires for them?

Skriefal thanks for the quick reply, I live within driving distance to Monoprice, I am ordering some HDMI video cables from them so I am thinking about picking 100 ft of speaker wires from them here for $47: 12AWG CL3 Rated Loud Speaker Cable - 100ft

or should I just get 100 ft of the regular 12AWG for $29.32?

12AWG Enhanced Oxygen Free Loud Speaker Cable

Last question, would there be any problem using the REF1 with my Panasonic XR55 receiver?

Thanks!

I'd say save the $20 and get the standard stuff unless you're going to use it to go in-wall.

XR55 and the Ref1 should work fine.

A 12 gauge speaker wire will perform the same as any other variety of 12 gauge speaker wire. But the more expensive wire might look a bit nicer or might be more flexible (easier to route/position as desired). Even if you don't care about the looks, more flexible wire is certainly easier to work with and is worth a bit more $. But $20 more? Probably not, but only you can make that call.

I was using older 12 gauge "Supercable" wiring from Radio Shack until I got my Strata Minis a couple weeks ago. At that point I pulled out some Canare Star Quad 4S11 that I'd bought some time ago, and finally cut and trimmed a couple pieces of appropriate length to replace the older 12 gauge cable. This cable contains four individual 14 gauge wires; twisting together the two reddish wires and the two whitish wires yields a net 11 gauge cable. Does it perform any better than the plain 12 gauge cable? No, but it looks a bit nicer and I'm happy to have finally used some of that 4S11!

Hey Skriefal, where did you get your 4S11 wires?

I am looking to buy 100 ft of it and the cheapest I found is .80 / foot, and with shipping it came out to be about $92.

Monoprice doesn't have any of the 12 gauge wires in stock, and I gotta have everything setup next week. 100 ft of 12 gauge from partsexpress comes out around $60 so I figure might as well get something nice.

Anyways let me know if 92 is a decent price for 100 ft of 4S11 wires. Thanks again!

I am trying to get what I believe to be an objective view of the Strata Mini's. I feel like what I have read about them at some sites is a little too much fanboy talk. Would give your take on the Strata's and do you think they are a good deal? Do you like a particular two channel set better at this price or less?

The Strata Minis are my first 2-channel setup in about 10 years, not counting several lower-end bedroom systems. And prior to that it was cheapie speakers from Best Buy -- Jensen, Sony, etc. The best I could do is compare them to the Rocket RS750s in my family room 5.1 system, and even that'd be difficult since I haven't attempted to directly compare the two. They both sound great, with the Strata Minis being a bit more accurate and definitely with better bass response -- those dual 350W powered woofers help a lot with that.

Thanks for your thoughts on your Strata Mini's skriefal. I love the look of them, but that is not enough of a reason for me to bite. I imagine they sound rather good, but I am trying make sure I am convinced they are at least equal to most in their price range. Some may drop $2000 on two speakers without thinking about but I expect them to be special for that much dough.

edit: I just realized you meant hearing some other owners speakers before I order. Now that might work and is worth checking into. If not read below.
Yes, but it seems if I get the special deal on the package I am looking at I have to waive the in home trial to get the free shipping. I think that is about $300. I am not complaining, but I would like to get the discount and be pretty sure I will not want to return them. Thanks for the input.

You might want to start a thread over there and see if anybody has them that hasn't put anything up on the demo link area.

You'll find other comments and reviews of the Strata Minis at www.avsforum.com and www.av123forum.com. Highly subjective items like this are extremely difficult to review, especially when you don't really have the vocabulary to describe the audible differences between two pairs of speakers... and I don't. The Stratas sound effortless -- not strained at all -- throughout the entire frequency range, and unlike many less expensive speakers they are not at all tiring to listen to for long periods. But others will be able to offer better and more complete comments than I have.
