Av7 133 CPU too hot ??

Have just purchases the AV7 133 mobo along with a T/B 1.2 CPU and its appears a bit hot. Asus probe shows the temp at 69C/138F. Originally had an Orb heatsink cooler but when trying to attach it one of the plastic points snapped off the CPU holding unit ( or whatever its called ) so returned for a different type and have attached that. Amazingly it booted up at first attempt and WinME install went ok. I have changed this setting in the Bios to 133 as I have 256 meg of 133 ram and changed the multiplier back to 9.

So is the CPU too hot ? I can touch the HSF and its only warm. I didnt have any thermal paste and dont want to remove the current heatsink/Fan as I dont want to break any more plastics latches/pieces of the board.

which hsf are you using now. using thermal compound too?

The Asus probe reports tmps 8-10C higher than they are...go into the BIOS and double check the temps in Hardware monitoring...
With an Alpha PAL6035 and silicone grease my temp at 1.2ghz were 50-51C or so

Yeah - known problem with the A7V133. AsusProbe reports a higher temp than actual. Go in bios and you will see the correct temp - about 6-8deg C lower.

i will be building my system soon, what temp should i consider "too hot" with an asus A7v?

the proc is a tbird 900@1.1ghz(bought from compuwiz1)

Yes the Bios shows the temp at only 48C........surely Asus can
get the probe to read the same temp as the Bios ? A poor bit
of design etc from Asus if this is the case .

As for the thermal paste, well the CPU Cooler came with some sort of paste already on it, you know the type where you peel the tape back and the "paste" is there. The Cooler is from Tiger and is made for Pent 4 and AWD Athlon T/Bird/Duron ( SDA38000BC)
