Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha.... Really?? The movie upset you that much? You don't like to see the infalllibe, undefeatable americans lose? Um, newsflash, we've lost a couple of wars.
And this was a, say it with me now, FICTITIOUS MOVIE.. I know that's a big word, but it means it was make believe. These soldiers did not appear to have any countries insignia, you just assumed they were US soldiers because they spoke english.
So sad you lost the joy of suspending belief for a short period of time to enjoy an amazing movie going experience. Sucks to be you.

I hearby nominate this thread for the PWNAGE OF THE YEAR threads because OP is basing his whole argument off of:
<<<<- No where on any Avatar-sponsored website does it even mention the "MILITARY UNIT" (as James Cameron describes it... are you saying HE is wrong?) being made up of mercenaries.
-- Military: "A military is an organization authorized by its nation to use force, usually including use of weapons, in defending its country">>>>

The dipsht thinks a group of mercs (Marines or not) hired by a corporation for security is the same as a real military operation, hahahahahaha.

Furthermore, from the Entertainment Weekly interview with James Cameron: "Avatar, which opens Dec. 18 and is rated PG-13, tells the story of a disabled ex-Marine (Sam Worthington) who travels to a distant moon called Pandora." Yes, EX-MARINE.

James Cameron's Avatar WIKI page:
http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cach...n+Worthington+marine&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

"In the Year 2154, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a former U.S. Marine paralyzed from the waist down due to wounds sustained in combat, is selected to participate in the Avatar program." FORMER.

"After being trained for several weeks in his new body, Jake, Grace and Norm explore the native wildlife with Trudy Chacon (Michelle Rodriguez), a retired Marine pilot who is assigned to ferry them to their location." RETIRED.

"Cast

Humans

* Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, an ex-marine, paralyzed from the waist down that volunteers to go to Pandora as an avatar. There he falls in love with the Na'vi princess, Neytiri.
* Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine, a botanist that mentors Jake Sully and helps him in the amazing planet of Pandora. She is in charge of the Avatar Program.
* Michelle Rodriguez as Trudy Chacon, a retired marine pilot that takes the avatar team to different parts on Pandora.
* Joel David Moore as Norm Spellman, an anthropologist who studies plant and nature life (like Dr. Augustine). He is impatient to finally land on Pandora, after a long trip.
* Stephen Lang as Colonel Quaritch, the chief of security on Pandora. He hates pandoran life and is the main antagonist.
* Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, the Pandoran Administrator of the RDA who does anything for money.
* Matt Gerald as Lyle Wainfleet, a Secop corporal and the second-most prominent villain, after Quaritch.
* Dileep Rao as Dr. Max Patel, the doctor of the operation that passes the human mind on an avatar. "
EX-MARINE. RETIRED MARINE. SECOP CORPORAL. Yes, "Military units" can exist in a mercenary group, dipsht.

I needed a good laugh today and haven't been on ATOT lately but this thread was great. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this will win the Thread of the Year but you never know with some of the morons that post.

"And the aliens went back to their dying planet."

Simply put, the bad guys (us?) got what they (we?) deserved in the end. Saw the movie today and thought it was great, this betrayal made it feel even deeper and believable. Besides, I'm not into "zombie" flicks, heh.

mostly it doesn't matter because comparisons to native peoples don't hold up. our native peoples are nothing as magical as the navi lol who are quite literally magic blue people

finally saw avatar (3d version) tonight. it was an excellent movie - the story was not all that impressive nor the cinematic feel all that great, but the sheer beauty and liveliness with which the world of pandora was made is what truly makes this movie. definitely a must see solely because of that.

according to my brother, the 3d version really makes a big difference in the visual details of the world.

3. Treason can be considered worse than murder and rape when you look at it like this: a government is set up by people to protect those people. That protection includes protection from things like murder and rape and then also punishment of violators. Treason, specifically, is the betrayal of that government and the entire system. Destroying the government also destroys laws and essentially ALLOWS murder and rape.

Treason, like the example you gave from the movie, doesn't necessarily destroy a government. One definition of treason is simply "a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state" not "acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign".

EDIT: I just read through most of the thread. Is weflyhigh fleabag's second account?

Mods; can we get the name of this thread changed to;

"Avatar made me want to throw up...not because of motion sickness but because I am a douche bag retard that cant figure out anything."

OP, you are a colossal idiot. I showed this to two of my friends who are in the army (one active enlisted and one discharged ROTC officer) and they are laughing their asses off at you. Sorry bra, you fail!

Let's just start with this.

A. Didn't destroy anything? Those forests were destroyed. The indegenous species HOME was destroyed. What do you mean didn't destroy anything? Are you really that stupid? As for what we wanted... THAT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. You don't always get what you want, dumbshit. IT ISN'T OURS TO TAKE. ITS NOT OUR PLANET. ITS NOT OUR HOME. ITS NOT OUR FOREST. ITS NOT OUR RESOURCES, NONE OF IT IS OURS. We were simply guests there, unwanted guests. We had absolutely NO RIGHT to take ANYTHING of theirs without permission. Period. End of story. You can try to justify this however the fuck you want, but it was their planet, not ours.

B. We weren't 'temporarily' living on another planet. We were ravaging another planet because we had already done so to ours. We were stealing their resources, destroying their home and cutting down their heritage/culture. What don't you understand about that? Did you even watch the fucking movie? Remember the tentacle things that came out of their hair and connected to EVERYTHING in that world? It's called their ancestors/culture/heritage. It is more than just a couple of sticks and stones to them... and the humans were destroying it. That's the entire point of the movie dumbfuck.

C. So if you walk into someones house in the middle of the night and they pull out a shotgun, you can shoot them? You just wanted his food. You weren't going to kill him.... but as far as he knews you were going to. It wasn't any of your business being there. He was just defending his home.

D. Just because they aren't using it doesn't mean it isn't theirs. Are you really that thickheaded man? There is a tree in my backyard I don't really use. It just sits there. Doesn't mean you can come fucking take it cause I don't use it. Again, you're a dumbass.

I think I see the problem here. You think you are more important than everyone else. You think the US Gov. can do no wrong and whatever they want to do, they have the right to do. They are better than everyone? Right? WRONG. You're one of the reasons a lot of this world hates the US. You're an egotistical self-righteous half-brained fucknut. And you're being called that by a god damn conservative. I only wonder what the liberals think of you.

You only responded to half of my post: does that mean you agree with the other stuff that I said and admit you were wrong in the first place? If so: cool.

A. This was not talking about destroying trees. Not at all and now you are calling me out for that. Go back to your first A and you will see we were talking about destroying the planet. I responded to that. If you are going to argue, don't bring up random stuff. We were talking about destroying the planet. I said we were not destroying the planet. You said we destroyed trees. That's great, but we aren't talking about that. The planet is fine and will always be fine. Now stop changing what I am saying.

You basically didn't respond to ANYTHING I said. You responded about destroying trees? When did I say anything about destroying trees? You DIDNT respond to collecting a mineral that will save 10,000,000,000 human lives THAT THE NATIVE PEOPLE WERE NOT USING. You also did not respond to the fact that about 95% of their land was unoccupied and they could have moved no problem (LIKE THEY WILL NOW).

About your capitalized portion: I don't give a fuck if it is "their" stuff or not. They (ALIENS) can move for a few months if that means we will save 10 THOUSAND MILLION human lives. Yes they can. They will get over it, if they will even notice in the first place. I would happily move from my house to another one for a few years to save ONE life.
To prove this point: THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO MOVE ANYWAY. Their tree got destroyed, so they are obviously going to live somewhere else now. Why was that so difficult?

B. You make a lot of sense. Humans LOVE destroying planets. We just go there and DESTROY THEM YEA because we find it fun. We destroyed ours and that got us so excited that we just wanted to go and destroy others. RAAAAAWR!!!! DESTROY PLANETS!!
No. We did not go to "ravage" their planet because we had ravaged ours. We went to their planet to mine small portions to keep our planet alive.
Did you watch the movie? They showed the 3D map of the mineral deposits. The mineral was not everywhere. We had ZERO use for the other areas. Hell, we only wanted one area that contained a lot. We surely would leave that planet after ours was satisfied.

C. Who walked into whos home? If I walk into someone's neighborhood and am walking on the sidewalk, I would be mad if they shot me. And yes, I would shoot back if I could.
If someone had a cure to cancer sitting in their basement that they were not using, they did not even know they had it and had no use for it, then YES I would ask them for it. I would ask them to let me into their house to get it. And if I told them repeatedly for over 3 months that I was coming into the house to get it and they shot at me, I would shoot back yes. I am not a greedy motherfucker. If you look at that cancer-cure thread with that poll asking what people would do if they found a cure, you will find that much of this forum would agree with me, too.

D. If you have a tree in your backyard that you have never looked at once or benefited from once in your life and that will save 10,000,000,000 human lives I will go take it. Sorry, bro. You are completely unreasonable to think that is wrong. You can plant a new fucking tree.
ALSO, you are a human. If a dog has the cure to cancer in its dog-house, you better believe I will go into that dog house to get it (and ask him nicely, etc, but that isn't even necessary).

You are completely wrong with your last statement. I already said the government can be wrong and I gave the proper procedure to deal with that. I guess that makes everything else you say wrong considering you put it in an A=B B=C C=D format, but I do not equal B so therefore not necessarily D either.
Humans are better than other animals, too.

Oh and you forgot to reply to over half of what I said in case you forgot.

Oh and how does all of this relate to MUTINY? The purpose of this thread?

ProfJohn, I really liked your conclusion that I am an idiot or a troll. You supported it with some pretty concrete facts and I really don't see how anyone could not follow your logic! Thanks for the contribution.
z1ggy, RTFT.

Wow, you guys know this didn't really happen, right? It's a fictional movie, not a documentary.

That's right, the movie points this out right in the first 10 minutes. They were hired by a corporation, so it's not treason. The main character (blanking on his name) is working for the science team, not the mercs. I don't think the movie ever specifically says they're American. It's obviously implied. The movie does have strong political themes though. Iraq is an obvious one.

I guess if they really wanted to beat the Na'vi, they should have sent Canada in to fight for them. A country that can win wars. The US military excels at that.

You don't get it:

We've already argued that they're mercenaries.

I'm simply pointing out to the OP that the mercenaries in AVATAR are ROTC, which the OP proudly claims to represent.

This is the real reason for their fail, as is made rather clear at the opening of the flick.

Hell, as soon as corporal deuchebag made that "ROTC" comment, I laughed my ass off. Knew they were doomed.

EXACTLY.

The film is garbage, more or less. But it's beautiful garbage, and absolutely needs to be seen in a proper theater.

The sand-in-vagina illiterate military sort that don't get it are babbling cyphers, their opinions overshadowed by the brainless simpletons that simply enjoy pew pew pew and shiny colors.

For the first time, I stand with the latter crowd.

After reading the asinine OP, I pictured Weflyhigh as the type of guy to waltz around with a John Deere hat and God Bless America t-shirt on.

"I'm not a fan of any movie that shows the American military being defeated."

You must not enjoy Vietnam war movies.
