Wow, huge OP fail here. The fact that these are paid mercs undermines his entire argument, and he's too stupid to realize it.

I go to movies to be entertained, if I wanted a political commentary, I wouldn't go to the movie theater. Thanks to the OP for bringing this to my attention so I don't waste my time or money on political bull.

Don't let the crazy ramblings of the OP sway you away from the movie. If you want to be entertained, go see Avatar, in 3D, at an IMAX. I promise you will be entertained.

This thread is fail. Where did all the angry, negative AT members crawl out from? It's a movie, it looked great, and was wildly entertaining. If you didn't like it, WHO FUCKING CARES, it's only a movie!

SPOILERS

Let me say the movie looked AMAZING and the special effects were mind blowing. But, about half? way into the movie, I started to want to throw up:
The main characters of the movie do a complete 180 and started MURDERING their fellow soldiers and American comrades.
I understand if you do not believe in what your government is doing - and if you believe this strongly enough you can get a dishonorable discharge from the military - but to literally a) steal American weapons and then b) use them to kill those Americans you fought side by side with and are contracted under law with to serve fully and honorably just made me sick.

When that girl helicopter pilot turned her American helicopter around and started firing at her superiors, my stomach started turning. I felt no sympathy at all when she got blown up.
Treason is arguably the WORST crime a person can commit. In fact, it is the only crime documented in the US constitution. If she wants to turn her helicopter back, refuse to fight, and get sent to prison for disobeying the law, then she can - that is her only right.

Another thing that bothered me was the fact that the natives would have gotten stomped on if 1) they did not use any of the "Sky Peoples"'s weapons or 2) they hadn't gotten extremely fortunate (those explosives were seconds from being dropped before a stolen grenade stopped it - and then the second grenade that blew the hole).

I'm not a fan of any movie that shows the American military being defeated.

Notes:
I know there are threads on the movie, but I want this thread to be specifically about this part of the movie and also about Americans being defeated in movies in general.
I am contracted in the Army ROTC.

Funny I'm not a fan of movies that show the American military winning.

His 'ramblings' don't sound that crazy to me. I'm ex-military myself, and only the lowest form of scum would turn and fire on their own comrades.

If anything, I'll wait until its on Netflix Streaming or Redbox.

99% of the folks in this thread are calling the OP crazy, and are bashing his crazy ramblings (and don't kid yourself, he's 100% crazy), yet you think he makes sense? Huh?

Don't even bother with the movie. Seriously. You've already made up your mind about how awful it is without seeing it.

I know right? I don't get how people are so deadset against something w/o actually experiencing it. Their loss, really.

Well technically, the "bad" guy fired on his "comrades" first. He also punched the main character in the face first, just for punching some cameras.

It isn't like the OP said. It is not as if the main characters just started mowing down their friends. Instead, they disagreed with what was happening, refused to co-orperate, were thrown in jail, tried to escape, ,were fired upon, joined the resistance and fought in the final battle. When they did actually fight their old allies, there was no question about whose side they were on.

Also, they aren't fighting for some greater cause. There is no camaraderie. They are just mercenaries.

I don't even know where to begin.....

I and my fellow Vets and Enlisted personal went as a big group to see this movie. I actually went to go see the movie with about 2 enlisted Air Force, 3 retired air force (2 were full birds and the other a Chief MSgt), and 2 previous marines. We all enjoyed the movie greatly. Not once did any of us come to inane conclusions you did.

I did point a couple of them to this thread though to make sure others that are currently enlisted agree with me. They, like myself, are APPALLED by what you have said. Absolutely DISGUSTED. You can not even fathom the depths of my disgust for you. Why am I filled with such loathing for your mentality and statements?

You are equating the US Military with these fictional murdering bastard mercenaries. Look here, you need to get a clue Mr. Troll. First off, just because the leader of these mercs was a white haired, blue eyed, English speaking character does NOT equate to the United States of America. We are not the only country in the world with a population that includes people that match that description, let alone the only one that have military commanders that could look like him.

Second of all, there was no mention of America, but only of a Corporation. There was never a mention of ANY nation or group of nations. In fact, the whole thing was about a FICTIONAL future, about a FICTIONAL corporation, using FICTIONAL mercenaries to kill, murder, and steal from other sentient beings. Maybe you didn't get the joke about what they were going after. Did the word "Un-obtain-ium" not clue you in to the fact that this movie had nothing to do with anything at all relating to reality? I was hoping the blue aliens and alien world and hardware that doesn't exist might give you further clues, however you seemed not to made that distinction.

Look, this was NOT a military. These were not soldiers obeying lawful orders. These were fictional mercenaries in a fictional story. The story had these mercenaries out to murder and plunder innocent beings just because someone else had something they wanted. The fact you are equating currently serving and honorable soldiers of the US military to these characters is what appalls me to my very core. You sir are as un-patriotic as any person I have ever met. I am ashamed of you.

As for the record, Article 92 of the UCMJ states a soldier must obey LAWFUL orders or regulations. That they must disobey UNLAWFUL orders or face a court martial or worse.

Cold blooded murdering and plundering is NOT LAWFUL here in America, where I come from. The fact you think it is also makes me ashamed to be in the same country with you. Speaking of reality, did you not follow the fact that many soldiers in Iraq recently broke UCMJ code of Article 92 and 93 with the maltreatment of civilians and "following unlawful orders" recently? You seriously need to at least look up the recent court martials resulting from those cases.

Again, I stand by my conviction that you are a sorry piece of an excuse for an American. Myself and other members of the US military, both current and prior, find you a disgrace.

You need to fuck off.

A) It's just a movie
B) Why does the thought of a country falling (in a fantasy) is so repugnant to you? In American movies you guys kill/defeat foreign nations all the time and that's not a problem.
