I love this forum. All reviews so far are great... Lame it's going to suck. I like to listen to xxxxxx... LAME their mainsteam, I heard them on the radio.

Everything that gains any kind of popularity or fame, people here just have to bash because it makes them cool.

Thats because they're anti-social losers who wet their pants when around a lot of people, so they stay home in the basement waiting for things to come out on blu-ray.

Supposedly this was filmed in revolutionary new 3d technology so it may be worth the price of the ticket to see the eye candy on the first film of said technology. It's prob helps that at least if this movie has no substance it was still filmed by a great director.

I will believe it when I see it. I don't care how fancy the visuals are, the actual movie is important as so far it doesn't have me interested

My thoughts exactly...what I've seen in the previews just hasn't pushed my buttons at all.

looks like garbage. They replaced a plot with fancy special effects. trash for douchebags.

No, there's a plot. It's just the exact same plot we've seen in countless other films from Pocahontas to Dances with Wolves to The Last Samurai.

Here's a fun question though...if we are so technologically advanced that we can travel to distance worlds and create hybrid human/Na'vi being that we can transfer our consciousness too....why is Sam Worthington's character still paraplegic?

Given its budget, I'll be stunned if this thing makes money.

If it does, I'll bow (briefly.) My fear then would be Cameron wanting a $1b budget for his next film.

They can, it's just the operation he needs is expensive.

I think many of us are wary because all the praise seems to be pointed at the technological prowess of the film. I believe that, but my concern lies with the story. I remember reading a while ago (don't ask for source, I honestly can't remember where and it may have been here) that Avatar was supposed to be the first new movie in a while that goes to create its own universe, similar to the way Star Wars created a popular setting. If Cameron went to the length to create his own universe, I hope that he could spin a better yarn than "Dances with Smurfs", as South Park succinctly puts it.

Maybe the story is unique and not rehashing a story that we've heard several times before. However, considering the considerable amount of money that has been spent on the film, it wouldn't surprise me if Cameron decided to go with a safe and unoriginal story. Probably because spending the money on a (supposedly) incredible visual experience is a safer and easier move than creating an original story that could very well blow up in his face and turn this into a financial failure.

So you don't think he can write a story? Hmm, Abyss, Aliens, Terminator, Terminator 2, True Lies, Titanic. I think the man knows how to write a story and make a movie that keeps people interested.

hopefully this one will work as a substitute for the gay vampire movie that my wife wanted to see. i told her the only vampire i wanted to see was kate beckinsale in tight leather .... and then the fight started.

Good choice... totally worth it

I remember all of the "critics" cheering in the aisles for the screening of Independence Day too.

From what I can gather from the previews, the movie is about evil humans invading an alien planet and waging war, all for a rare natural resource.

Gee, I wonder where James got that idea...and you can probably guess where he is going with it.

Talk about the most expensive anti-Iraq-war/Bush movie to date.

He supposedly had this idea ~20-30 years ago. Whether that is true or not is another story.

Cameron fleshed out most of the ideas/themes for Avatar in his 1995 scriptment.

If anything the film is an indictment of colonialism/manifest destiny.

Eh, not really IMO. It reminds me a lot more of Dances With Wolves.

Even with that in mind the visuals are most definitely top rate work.

i really fail to see how CGI that looks laughable in a 480p trailer on my computer monitor is going to look good on a 100ft screen.

unless you're seeing the 480p trailer in 3d then you're just missing the big picture.
