AVG antivirus update made pc reboot over and over

I just updated a very long update for my AVG antivirus today. It then asked me to restart my system after it was done installing. I then restarted, and the thing kept rebooting over and over again. A blue screen then came up with a huge message on it that I couldnt read fast enough cause of the constant reboots. Said something that if the problem keeps doing this to uninstall any new programs that I installed, and something about bios.

It happend to a couple other people too that I read about in the AVG forums. Now I uninstalled AVG and I have no antivirus. I am afraid to reinstall it again, and am scared now my pc is messed up

Hmm, I just installed the latest AVG and updated it last night on my rig (see link in sig) and it was fine... I'd try using crap cleaner then reinstalling AVG and see what happens now.

Is ccleaner safe to use? I am sure it is but always ask this I dont want it to uninstall something important, or does it check for stuff on its own and delte what you want? After I uninstalled and rebooted syatem again, windows finaly booted up but one of those "error reporting windows for microsoft" came up.

This strange window came up that said "Error Signature" and had these codes:

BCCode: 1000000a BCP1:00003010 BCP2 , OSVer: 5_1_2600 and a few others. Only way i could save that window was to hit print screen and print it out.

Thanks

I wouldn't give advice that I won't take myself. I use it when need be on my own systems and it works pretty good. You can tailor how it works. Just install it and check it out, you'll see what I mean right off the bat.

Thanks Megatomic, I will check out cccleaner first chance I get. It looks like a nice tool. Was going to download it the other day but didnt have time.

I went and installed ANTIVIR and got rid of AVG completly. After reinstalling AVG on Sunday, the pc wouldnt stop rebooting, so Windows had to go to a previous configuration so it could be stable again. I couldnt even get into safe mode with my system (never could for some reason) . I had AVG for over a year with no problems whatsoever but after this mess, it will never ever install on my system again. A lot of people are having this same problem that I had.

to fix the bootloop:

run chkdsk on your drive(s) to ensure the integrity of the drive... after that run the system file checker (sfc /scannow) to make sure your OS is in order. if everything is fine after these steps, format the master boot record and try it then.

it is strange that this behaviour would be caused by AVG. i would think it was something else. best of luck

Thanks meltdown. I'll give it a go, but is chkdsk the same as scandisk or is that something else? And where exactly do you run that from?

In the AVG forums, they think the loop and other problems the latest update is creating is caused by INCD and Nero software, but they arent 100% sure yet. I have INCD 4, and I dont think it can be updated,???..... not sure. I very seldom burn anything or use nero anyways, so may just delete it all unless I need it to use my dvdrom to play games? Unless this ANTIVIR gives me problems, (which wouldnt surprise me now), I will never go back to AVG unless they find out for sure whats causing the loop. Thanks again.

I do see an Error checking under "Local Disk C Properties," I imagine this is chkdsk? I ran this error checking after the first loop happend, and then defrag. Is there a way to get a report after running error check if it finds errors or not?

The recent AVG update kept telling me I needed to reboot my pc to complete the update. I would reboot and it would say the exact same thing again and again. I uninstalled, deleted the Grisoft folder, and reinstalled AVG. Worked fine after that.

Define what a real antivirus is, and I might. If you cant say anything helpful keep your trap shut and not flame others.
