avg cost of wedding gift?

I'm relatively young and I'm suddenly going to a bunch of weddings. I'm looking at registries and people have a lot of small things listed rather than a bunch of big items. So I'm not really sure how much to spend cuz I have no idea what is appropriate. These are fairly close friends of mine so I don't want to cheap out on them but then again I'm a student with no income. Would 75-100 bucks be good? I just have no idea...

I think for a student that's a good amount. I always give a check at weddings, and it's usually $200 or so, depending on how close I am to the people.

50 for someone you kind of know, 100 or more depending how close you actually are. Real friends always have an idea if your in financial straights too, keep that in mind. I always think that a thoughtful gift means more to me from friends than any amount of money. Maybe im just a simple man.

These are fairly close friends of mine so I don't want to cheap out on them but then again I'm a student with no income.

You can always buy a token gift and make it up by offering to do something for them instead. Something like help by addressing the envelopes for thank you cards, prepare them some meals in the days before the ceremony, clean the house, put together a wedding photo album for them, etc...

Re-gifting can be great. The gift is still worth money. You kind of actually pay for it (in some way) and it's still a gift.

You're not required to spend a lot on wedding gifts. You're not required to help them justify spending too goddamned much on an expensive wedding by 'making it up' with getting lots of expensive gifts. Anyone who sits around comparing how much one guest or another spent on their wedding gifts is someone you shouldn't buy a gift for at all.

$20-30 is PLENTY to spend on a gift. Really. Unless it's your brother or sister or best friend, in which case you might want to just give them a couple hundred bucks cash (hundred bucks since you're still a student).

If for relatives, if my parents give a lot, i will be under their umbrella as per tradition, but I would also give a small gift of about 50$ from their registry (usually dishware, glassware)

That's basically what I would do. If the people are gonna shell out the extra money to get me a steak dinner and open bar instead of chicken and a pay bar, then I'll spend accordingly.
