antivir 7 looks fixed of all it's problems, so i would go with that. try both! see what you like better. both are great.

What are you gonna be doing with your machine? AntiVir if your a gamer, and AVG if your just a Windows.

Antivir 7 (in its current version) has fixed nearly everything people complain about, you can even get rid of the messages about their products that pops up sometimes when it autoupdates itself by following some easy steps.

I installed AntiVir. I cannot find where it scans my emails through outlook express though. I was using AVG and it scanned my incomming and outgoing emails. Is there a way to make AntiVir do this? If it cannot scan emails, I'll just go back to AVG!

Yep, the free version does not scan it coming in, but it will stop the virus from executing.

Worthy of note that Antivir has higher detection rates than AVG and is subsequently the best free anti-virus solution last I checked.

My old system had Anti-Vir, but I liked the old version more than the new one. I've used AVG, but just going by interfaces, Anti-Vir wins.

I have used AVG for a couple years and was thinking of checking out AntiVir, but the lack of POP3 email scanning in the free version seems like a deal breaker to me.

I had AVG and decided to try antivir, but it used made my whole computer run REALLY slow, and so I went back to AVG, but seeing all of the recomendations for antivir, it's probably just me.

AVG would always give me some bug where it wouldn't update any more, so I switched to Antivir. Now Antivir 7 has a bug where it won't update. So I'm just not going to scan anymore.

Use both - only keep one memory resident. Use the other as a 'backup scanner'.

I actually use 3 - avg, antivir, and clamav - antivir and clam av backup my avg. I scan daily with avg, and once a week or so with the others.

Do you really run the daily risk of getting a virus

I don't know AntiVir but it sounds bizarre that people would choose it over AVG, which scans pop3 for free (not to mention has always worked great for me.)

Someone please explain why everyone is so unconcerned about scanning their POP3 accounts, where so many viruses can be found (because I know y'all aren't paying for the premium version. )

explain to me how you get viruses through your pop3 email? you open everything that comes your way? cuz i sure as hell don't. i'll read the text part only, without letting it execute anything. and unfamiliar emails that peddle appendage lengthening miracles or start with "hey honey..." sure as heck don't get any love from me.

also i just find it convenient to use webbased mail systems to check my mail, and i can't find any reason i would even need to use a separate email application to check my email these days. i briefly did consulting for a small scale company, and even they had webbased mail available for their users.

all these things make active email scanning pretty useless imo. the higher rates of detection antivir provides, while being discrete is more than enough to keep me using.
