AVG or AntiVir??

Have been using Antivir for a while now. No complaints, but then again I've never had a real virus encounter except with an ms-blaster variant years ago.

I dont check my mail in windows. So I only need antivir to make sure there are no virus's in my no cd cracks.

As long as the antivirus program scans things before read/write/execute then you dont need a special POP3 scanner.

The new version of AntiVir sucks because you can't easily dissable the memory-resident scanner. Plus I liked the old Windows 95 look compared to the 'lets look like bullshit' look.

Also, memory resident scanners make your computer SLOW. As long as you keep Windows up to date, you shouldnt need antivirus, unless your a moron and click everything you ever see.

you can activate and deactivate antivir easily from the tray icon.

Avast is good, but this all goes back to Schadenfroh original thread here (which I have to interject and say is an amazing source of info).

Avast's detection rate is a bit lower than Antivir's, but basically it's just flavor picking at this point.
