AVG wants restart now & didn't used to?????????/

Only been using AVG at work here for a couple years on my Win98 work machine, but I've always done similarly to home (where I use XP) and after the update, I get the small dialogue box that shows the files downloading, then when it's done you click the "OK" button or it'll countdown from 30seconds & do it solo.

Well, for the last month or so, I've noticed my AVG icon in the clock tray keeps going grey so I click "update" & it pauses a few seconds then says "update unsuccessful".

Well, I figured out what's happening is that it now needs a "restart" where it didn't used to. So, when I restart, the computer boots back up & the icon is back to "color" again.

Did something happen w/ AVG recently?????????

I'm using AVG Personal edition on all the computers here at home, and have noticed that I always seem to get the "email scanner is not functional" message. It seems to come on and off on one computer and seems to have fixed itself on another. Very strange, but the program itself always works well. Haven't had any virus problems since leaving norton for it.

Ya, mine's one of 5 at work all using 98se and none of the rest need a restart. Just mine.

Turns out it was in the "Properties" section of the UPDATE MANAGER.

Settings on the "free" version doesn't really offer any options, so I looked in "Properties" & found that the last 'new' version of AVG I downloaded, must've reverted back to "update on next restart" vs. "update immediately".

I set things back to "update immediately" and toggled 'on' a few items below like "show update progress" and things are back to normal.

Hopefully this helps someone.
