AVI File Creation

The sister of a good mate of mine is getting married in a couple of months, and as a surprise from the family they want to show a short clip of her "acting debut"; being an extra in a long forgotten 3 part drama/comedy from the BBC. The show was never released on DVD but they have a friend who works for the BBC who tracked down the original BBC Post Production DVD's. Now she appears 6 times in total, twice in each episode for a total of about 1 minute.

So I've been tasked with getting the various clips from the DVD's and combining them into one clip. The clips themselves vary between 2 and 12 seconds but I'm not sure of the best way to snip them all out. Anyone got any ideas on programs etc I should use?

You could use DVDShrink to cut out the bits you want and create separate VOB files. Then use any DVD Authoring tool to create a DVD. If you want AVI, just convert to AVI after cutting out the parts you want. There are a lot of utilities for converting DVD to AVI (DIVX/XVID).

Perfect. I was using DVD Shrink but I didn't realise you can set start and end markers. That's just made my life much easier. Encoding a 60MB file is much easier than encoding a 1,000MB file. Cheers for the heads up.
