I think my sony handycam qualifies as a peripheral...or at least I hope it does. As of right now I have two ways of downloading video from the camera to my computer. I can either download directly from the camera in DV format which puts an extremely large .avi file on my computer. Or I can use the software supplied with the camera and download video in .mpeg 1 format. If I download the video in .mpeg format the quality is greatly decrease (even on the highest quality settings) and the resolution of the camera (720x480) is not used with the .mpeg files. If I download in .avi format I get the full resolution of the camera with excellent quality video. My problem is that I cannot find any applications that will take an .avi file and encode it into a divx file. I can encode my mpegs into divx just fine. Does anyone know of a good freeware application that will convert .avi's into divx files?
