Avi to mpg help

hey.. am trying to convert an avi file to mpg so that i could watch it on my smartphone ( avi's dont work too well on my phone...)..However, the Avi-to-mpg software says that the audio format is not supported... When I try converting using Tmpgenc, a error message saying ILLEGAL POINTER OPERATION appears after some time and the output file does not have any audio...

Any idea as to whats wrong? I used gspot and it found 3 compatible audio codecs on my machine...

The problem is in TMPGEnc, not your computer. If the stream header for an avi file is malformed -- e.g. it says it's WAV but it's actually mp3 -- TMPGEnc will give you errors like that. This is common in a lot of anime releases for some reason.

You can use BeSweet, found at doom9.org. It should allow you to convert the audio straight from the AVI file. If not, the error message that appears in the text file that pops up afterwards should give you an html address to go to, which will have the plugins you need to do it.

If that doesn't work, get VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod, both found on doom9.org. Open the avi file in that, go to Streams->Stream List, then select the audio stream (should be the only one there) and hit the "Save WAV" button. You can then select that wav file as your audio source in TMPGEnc.
