I was at a lan party and one of my friends was having lockup problems, you guessed it: his system was overheating. The video card that he had purchased had no active cooling. So to quickly fix the problem we too the side of his case off and put a small desk fan blowing into his case. Amazing his once Extremely hot case was now room temp. I was thinking, why not make the Ultimate Case Mod and take a small box fan and attach it to the side of your case. Think about the cost, most box fans aren't over $20 and one GOOD case fan will cost all of that. Odds are your one case fan will be louder than the box fan. Plus with a box fan you get speed control and you can get from small to Huge (Great for those tower cases) Now the real problem is that a box fan is almost allways AC powered (Unless you live in a country with DC power) and you want your new cooling system to turn on when you hit the power swich, well that can be done quite simply with a simple automotive 12V power relay. When the relay senses power it creates a circut or simply it turns on a swich, so all you need to so is wire up the relay in place of the factory fan swich. Now to finish off your project and make it look nice you need to have an old powersupply or somewhere to purchase a power connector like one on a power supply. If you get one from an old powersupply you need to be Extremely carefull as there may be enough power still stored in it to KILL you. I have just provided an idea of some cheap cooling, I my self am still in the planning portion of this cooling solution. If you complete it or need any ideas give me an Email at Dancecraft@zxmail.com (Please no spam)
Happy Cooling

I just wanted to qualify, in my article I refered to a box fan, if your wondering I was NOT refering to a small case fan that you commonly find at computer stores. I am refering to a box fan like you would find at k-mart or wallmart. The kind thats size is about 12"x12"x3"... Anyway I just wanted to qualify the difference. Any comments or ideas to make it better ?
