Dammit, I hate being nice
I received $2100 for my truck that got totaled earlier this month. After work today, I was at the gas station, and a very polite young girl was in front of me. She was in some rough looking clothes (Shorts and a sweater, and it is 22 degrees outside. No coat), and was buying two Cornish hens and some other stuff... paying with food stamps. I heard her talk about this stuff being Thanksgiving dinner for her family and how great it was going to be this year. She left, making sure to say "Happy Thanksgiving!" to me on the way out, and I walked up to the counter and started a conversation with the gas lady. She told me she knows the little girl, and that she lives with her mom and little brother. Her mom is suffering from medical problems (From what, she did not know) and works hard at home to make extra money for her family.
I asked where she lived, telling the attendant that "I think I know her cousin" as a ploy to get her to talk. She told me, and I left and went down to the Credit Union. I just came back from their house a little while ago after meeting Karen, Linda (the mom) and Anthony (Her brother). I stopped by to give them the order I placed at a local commercial food dealer for $800 of credit on their account (Which they matched 400% when they found out the cause), along with a Kaufmanns gift certificate for $500.00 and a personal check for $836.12 for her mom to fill up their oil tank for the furnace and start her craft store she wants to do (One month building rental at this local craft shop)
Basically in the end it cost me total... $2136.12 Out of my own pocket cost was $36.12. I can rest knowing they are gonna be warm and are going to have, and I quote, "The bestest Thanksgiving ever"
The reason why I posted this was 15 min ago I received a phone call from Karen, saying that they are having a huge dinner, and are inviting everyone in their area who are not so fortunate. I was also invited, but I am declining (Saying I already have plans) because I think it would be awkward for me to be there. I still feel fuzzy as hell though
