AX850 too loud with 290x CF setup, EVGA vs. Corsair 1000+ units?

I thought it was the bottom 290x fan that was causing all the racket, but after going all AIO watercooled on both cards, I've realized the loudest component now while gaming is my aging 5 year old AX850.

It's time for a new PSU, Reading tons of reviews has me thinking about the EVGA PS 1200 vs the Corsair HX1000i.

I know some of you are thinking that another 850 watt unit is enough, but I want quiet, and a larger PSU should be running pretty cool at the 600-700 watt range.

It's rig #1 below.
4790K o/c to 4.6, both 290x are running o/c also at 1100Mhz on stock voltage.

I'm going to move the trusty AX850 into my son's rig as his Antec 650's 12V rail sags to around 11.75 when gaming.

Are those any good or another alternative?

I've read good things about both of those units. You may also consider the
seasonic snow silent 1050w. That also had great reviews at the same rating.

Watch the EVGA power supplies. They are decent quality but many models are really noisy. I had the 1300W G2 and that thing was ridiculously loud. I tried an AX1200i because of the silent mode until the load went up but I got two lemon units in a row and gave up on Corsair.

I'm now using the EVGA 1200 P2. The ECO mode is great and the fan remains off below 600W of power consumption. I would get the P2 1000/1200 unit that offers the same ECO mode if you go EVGA. Do not get a G2 model because they are loud as all hell.

XFX Pro Series P1-1050-BEFX 1050W - I'm running 290X's in CF under water and the PSU is super quiet.

I stepped up from an 850W PSU for your very reason.

I really wanted to get the EVGA G2 1000 as it's such a good value and has the well liked super flower platform. I worked my system really hard over the weekend playing DAI/SoM and the peak draw was around 700 watts at the wall for my rig. The AX850 is about 88% efficient at that load when new so I'm probably around 600 watts DC. The EVGA P2 1000 (It's quieter than the 1200 and I don't need that much watts) and Corsair HX1000i are currently at the top of my list. I am giving the HX850i a good look too as 600 watts is well under the 80% line on the 850. The reason I'm doing this is the HX750i is quieter at full load than my AX850 is at 600 watts (according to db charts). The only problem I see is that the HX850i may just run a higher rpm to keep it cool and therefore make it louder than the smaller unit.

I'd second the seasonic recommendation if noise is a concern. They made basically the best PSUs on the market and they are all extremely quite. According to the JonnyGuru review, the odds are the SSS 1050w won't even use the fan at you load level!

I found a used Seasonic X-1250 on craigslist for $80. Works perfect with my R9 290X's and it's super quiet.

^^ Thats a ridiculous deal, nice find.

I used to run a Thermaltake toughpower 1275W PSU and it was dead silent, I would recommend that one also. But all the others mentioned so far are at least just as good.
