i got the mouse working in XP with the native XP bluetooth drivers and geesh the mouse sucks period! It skips waayyy too much. The only way to correct this problem is to use the MS transceiver which sticks out like a BIG chunk from the USB port.

THIS IS THE BADDER PART
the included MS mouse drivers interfere with your ultranav software so you have to uninstall that...which is WTF..oh well i am going to return it to the store and probly get a logitech.

Hi all, i got the IBM T40p with the integrated bluetooth receiver and also purchased the MS Bluetooth Mouse. As said earlier, IBM's Integrated Bluetooth 2 Does not work with the MS mouse so i uninstalled it. But where can i find the native windows XP drivers for bluetooth? When i turn the bluetooth on after the IBM Bluetooth driver uninstall, it starts searching and eventually detects the Integrated bluetooth 2 driver again.

So What shall i do so that i can use the bluetooth mouse on the laptop w/o having to use the huge transceiver?

thanks guys

That's interesting. I'm using the mouse with the T40 built-in receiver and the MS BT stack and I haven't had any problems - no "skipping" (do you mean dipping sample rates?). One other person has been using the same combination and has seen no problems either. The Intellimouse software is annoying, yes, but all you have to do is re-install UltraNav after installing IM to get both working.

The MS BT stack is on the CD supplied with the mouse. The path to it is something like "[cd drive]/Prereq/BT". Just run the executable and it will install the MS BT stack which will then talk to all BT devices. I found it much easier to use than the IBM stack, but then I've only used it with two BT devices so far, namely the IBM receiver and the mouse. Also, you'll need Windows XP SP1 to be able to install it.

how do u install the MS supplied bluetooth stack? Like when i installed the MS IM, it ask me to connect the transceiver. So either way i have to remove IBM's Bluetooth II software rite?

i tried the IBM stack, but the mouse cursor speed is slow and it ocassionally jumps or skips.

Read my post above carefully. It mentions where the installer for the MS BT stack resides. You can uninstall the IBM Bluetooth software from the Control Panel. I haven't used this mouse with IBM Bluetooth software, but it works great with the MS stack and I expect you'll be able to make it work, too, if you follow the instructions. Oh, and make sure your batteries are not dead. That would explain the skipping, but the IM software should have warned you about it.

If the IM software asks you to connect the transciever, you haven't installed the stack right, because it should be automatically using the built-in T40 transciever, which hasn't been recognized in this case. Make sure the transciever is actually on (Fn+F5 and the BT LED is on).

so right now :

1) Uninstall IBM BT SW
2) Install the MS BT STack from CD (HOW???)

then?

do i HAVE TO USE the MS mouse software? or that is the only way to make the mouse work properly?

is the EXE for the stack called q323183_wxp_sp2_x86_enu.exe ??

so i just uninstall the IBM software, run that exe, install the MS mouse SW and connect the mouse?

I don't know if you have to use the MS BT stack, but that's what worked for me.

Actually, the procedure for installing is a bit different: you just find the Bluetooth receiver (under "Bluetooth radios" in "Device manager"), right click that, and click "Update driver". Then get to the point where it asks you to browse for an .inf, and go to "D:\Prereq\BthStack". Open the single .inf there. The MS BT stack will be installed and the receiver re-initialized with it. Other than this step, everything should work as you outlined.
