If you had to pick, which one would you get? My birthday is coming up and I'm pretty sure the wife is getting me R2, but I have enough time to drop hints for the B-Wing if necessary.

The B-Wing is super badass IMO, but I can't decide.

R2-D2: http://starwars.lego.com/en-us/Products/default.aspx#10225

update: Birthday comes early! I ended up getting surprised. Wife dropped hints that neither option was viable because of finances (Thanksgiving trip and other stuff), so I dropped it. Then the below is delivered today with some free goodies from Lego. Wife is the bomb for tolerating my continued love of toys and video games.

I think you and the kids will have more fun building R2 together. R2 is on their level and kids just seem to love him.
If you don't have any kids get the B-wing. The cool factor on the B-wing is higher than R2.

I like R2

There doesn't seem to be much to the B-wing which IMO would make for a more boring build.

What - do you have the Super Star Destroyer already? That is clearly the first one to get. The B-Wing is the second

Christ, it's LEGO, and it's the 21st Century.

Design your own custom build and order the parts. Almost all of the pre-designed shit has sucked since I was a kid.

Sheesh.

I would go with x-wing or the falcon first if you don't have either.

R2 looks weak unless your kid really likes it.

omg. That is freaking amazing. Where were these when I was a kid?!?!?!

Star Wars would've beaten the shit out of the "Space Police" (Lego Space-themed toys in the early 90s) any day!

I'm SO tempted to buy all the starfighters. $60 for an X-wing? SOLD!

Pfff. Please. Blacktrons > StarWars.

Not to mention I built a Tie Fighter predominately out of Blacktron pieces, and an XWing out of mostly Ice Planet pieces (granted the colors weren't ideal). I made the TCS Behemoth out of Ice Planet pieces too, actually.

I agree with this! You could always spring for the super star destroyer executer
My bro has the r2d2, ssd, and vader's tie fighter

I have the vw van, emerald train, and all the modular buildings (green grocer, corner shop, city hall, pet shop, fire house).

Sheesh.

Too expensive and too time consuming. R2-D2 is 2,127 pieces. If I were to plan it out and it took a conservative 1000 pieces to build at an average cost of $.25 per brick, it'd be 250 bucks right there. And no telling how much time it'd take to plan it out.

While, I wish I had the time to do all that, there's no way.

And that bold part is a bunch of bull shit.

Wait...something doesn't make sense here...

The OP says he has a wife...AND wants LEGOS?

The difference between men and boys is the price they pay for their toys...

Sounds like it's time for the OP to man up and get some real men's toys...or is he still in junior high?

Problem is: toys are the same, just more expensive.

Bump for update.

Damn, I wish I still have the budget to get some LEGO. Technic is the only line I buy now. I really really want to get the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 400 (before this one is discontinued) and the new Helicopter model.

Yeah, the Unimog is very cool. I also like that 4x4 Crawler.
