Actually at $214.99, the 9750 is a great competitor to the Q6600. It's cheaper and probably almost as fast if not just as fast.

I am going to wait some time to see if these things actually are capable of 3.2GHz+. I predict vigorous stepping huntings. (Does anyone remember Opteron 146 CABYE 0540FPMW, 165 CCB1E 0550VPMW, etc.?)

I'd really like to see that lopri, we all need for amd & intel to have a healthy competitorship..
If it wasn't for amd we'd all still be using pentium 2 gig or less for $3,000
Thank You ; AMD

as per my sig , i went to the dark side ,, hopefully amd will conquer once again & we'll see-saw back & forth with equal footing.. we need amd to survive !!

you guys think the phenom 9850 black is coolerless & unlocked like the other blacks..
for $243 i'm tempted to build since i can't get boxed Q9450 for a fair & decent price right now !!
go cheap gigabyte 780G chipset or 790FX chipset
i know the graphics would be slow on the 780G but it does have the new SB700 southbridge also !! i could add a 9600gt or 8800gt for graphics !!

MMmmmm!!! got me ta think'n,, hate it when i do this !!

Wasn't there a recent news about that most B3s could hit up to 3GHz? (Not the initial batch i.e review ramples but ones after)

I wouldn't mind seeing some Phenom 9550 reviews.

3 gig would be good, & looks like it can use the help!!
researching i'm seeing they're still needing 125 watt , i thought these were gonna be on better process & need only 95watt which is still quite a bit compared to C2d's

then i checked real world bench compare running power point & darn.. i know the eratta being fixed will help 8 - 10 % but goodness !!
http://www23.tomshardware.com/...&model2=1096&chart=438

plus i read where 780G chipset boards my have a problem with the 125 watt processors,,, anybody know anything about that !! [update, gary key was doing some testing with the various 780G boards & the 125 watt were frying the mofsets, even the 6400X2] glad i didn't play guines pig now !!
& this e8400 isn't even oc to simple 3.6ghz it's runn'n stock !! i'm shocked !!
think i'll let someone else play with this one for awhile..

I assume you guys have seen Tony's 3.5ghz Phenom 9850 on XS. I have since decided on getting a WC setup opposed to a new Phenom otherwise I'd be all over this. One must remember however, that Phenom's are not as simple as jacking up Vcore and raising the HT. This is a great source for info. Phenoms can respond differently to NB Voltage, CPU VID, HT Frequency- so those who get one make sure to thoroughly let us know how it performs .

Well I can lower my expectation to 3.2GHz only becasue the 9850 has got unlocked multipliers.

Perhaps its just wishful thinking, but isn't there supposed to be a Phenom with 4 megs cache?

They all have 4.5MB of cache now: 512KB L1 (4x128), 2MB of L2 (4x512), and 2MB of L3 (shared).

The Deneb Phenoms will have an additional 4MB of L3 cache (for a total of 8.5MB of cache) if that is want you are talking about. Should be released by the end of the year, especially since they have pulled all resources away from the 65nm process improvement to get 45nm production ready.

I think i'll try and wait out till the new 45nm revisions. 9850 sounds nice but the reality is it probably wouldn't feel much faster than my 9600 for what i do. Encoding videos may go quicker but a slight oc and disabling the errata and my 9600 has no probs grinding out videos

I'm planning on ordering a 9850, but I think I'm going to wait for the price to settle down just a bit.

So:

1. Higher power consumption
2. Higher price tag (particularly given performance)
3. Lower maximum overclock
4. Lower performance in general (work per watt)?
5. More difficult to overclock

Is that correct?

I haven't been very impressed with yorkfield overclocking news up to this point. hopefully I'll have some good news on that front (crosses fingers).

Good choice. Yorkfield is currently quite overpriced, and quite hard to OC. Unless you believe in your luck.

i'm with you, byronm. i'm sticking with AMD as all i do is x264 encoding on the machine i wish to drop it into. i'm sure MOST of us in this thread interested in buying one have our reasons for sticking by AMD, so i have no idea why all these Intel fans keep up their endless and annoying tirade about the categories Intel accels at. you'd have to be retarded not to. i guess they've let their computer do their computing, have finished, and are now bored.

i fail at maths, but i doubt i'm TOO far off with these calculations (based on newegg prices)
q6600 $235
9750: $215 - 98.75% the speed 91.5% the price
9550: $195 - 93.3% the speed 83% the price

edit: i'm just waiting for news about compatibility for my mobo, an M2A-VM (i'm not expecting it, tho, what after Anand's latest post about 780G issues)

edit2&3: (i composed a short rant, then held my tongue; then i recomposed myself) rather than telling a mod to do something, i would reiterate a request for etiquette (it actually exists in some places on the internet!). please don't threadjack *COUGH*yorkfield*COUGH*

lopri , do you have your eye on a certain motherboard for 9850BE X4

i'm lookin @ GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX Ultra Durable II

maybe this board ;;

unless i do like i don't care & get Yorkie 9450

just don't get the 780g chipset for the 125 watt drain of the faster phenom !!

No clue on motherboards. I hope over the next few weeks 1) that there will be a clear sign of better clocking Phenom (even if I have to hunt for a golden stepping), and 2) that a clear victor among 790FX will emerge.
