Hola, just found out last night my daughters mother got admitted to the psych ward(she admitted herself) at the hospital (Luckily my daughter just left for a summer camp for a week) I thought she was playing around on the phone the last couple of days, babbling on about nothing non stop. Apparently last night she flipped out at a family barbeque running around half naked screaming at random people.

They took her to the hospital, negative for drugs(I wouldn't think so). So questions is, has anybody dealt with someone getting admitted to the psyche ward before? What should I expect

and lol, no pics of her running around naked

Wow. To answer your first question, no. To answer your second question, I have no idea. But best of luck to ya!

I wonder how long it'll be before you get a pics request of your ex running around half neked.

If it got her admitted to a psych ward I'm going to guess they aren't worth seeing. Now if it got her a deal with playboy...

Somebody admitted her to a psych ward for yelling at people while half naked?

You'd think someone would suggest talking to a counselor, not forcing her into a freaking hospital for crazy people.

You'd be surprised to know how many hot girls are also complete psychos.

It'd be cooler if it was common knowledge for me though.

My mom checked in once, but for suicidal stuff, not half naked bbqs. I imagine my family's experience was quite different from what yours will be.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I've only had experience with people admitting themselves in the psych ward. From my experience they usually keep them for ~5 days then release them with medication and counseling appointments. But like I said, I only have experience with people who admitted themselves. Hope this helps. Take care of your daughter most of all.

sorry that was the shortened version of it, she had been displaying extremely abnormal behavior the last couple of days according to her family. Very delusional.

Sorry guys I just found out I think she suggested to them(her family) to take her to the psyche ward

my best friends husband was forced into rehab for similar behavior. he is bipolar and on medication for it, stopped taking it and went on some binges, spent all their savings and pretty much tried to commit suicide by biker gang. he walked into a fairly dangerous bar and picked a fight with... everybody. lucky for him the owner knew who he was (and the family he married into) and he was beat down and not killed. he was babbling for the most part, paranoid and refused to take his prescribed meds. they took him away and kept him for a week to observe his behavior, but once the represcribed his meds he straightened out pretty quick. hes still a whack job and id rather see him away from my best friend, but shes the type that has to help every stray she finds, despite the cost to family.

So, you're assuming she'd go see a psychiatrist willingly? That's an assumption you really can't make.

I have dealt with admitting someone to the psych ward.

They'll keep her for 7 to 10 days. Since she is not on any medication, they will medicate her. If she was on meds, they'd stop all she was taking and substitute whatever they want. The medication they give her may or may not be appropriate for the condition she has. Psych wards at hospitals are more for stabilization than meaningful treatment.

She'll need to follow up after her release. This may mean seeing a medical doctor, psychiatrist or both.

For those that may wonder, there are several criteria for admittance in a situation like this. She would have to be deemed a danger to herself or others, unable to care for herself, etc. I can about guarantee she did not get admitted without true cause. There are evaluations done by numerous persons during the admittance process. If she's in there, she qualified.

It may vary by state, but here, she would be required to go to court. She will need to appear before a judge or magistrate where her mental condition will be ruled upon by the court. She has rights and is entitled to due process. In other words, she cannot be kept unless it is determined that she truly needs treatment. She does not need to agree that she needs treatment. If she was admitted, a family member attested that she did need treatment and as I said, she was evaluated by several hospital personnel.

This happened to an older brother of mine unfortunately. He started talking about being in a movie and how they needed to go to New York to shoot this scene or another of Star Trek. He would fall asleep while talking to you and also repeat the same story over and over and over. And ask you the same question a hundred times. At the end he really went off the deep end with delusions and eventually lost his sight.
In my brothers case this was all caused by a pituitary tumor in his brain. Although they got most of it out some still remains but is not cancerous.
Anyway I hope they check her out physically first before making any psycho analysis just in case it's physical and not mental. Good luck.

Wow, that had to be sad to be around. Did he regain his mental health or his eye sight?

He is still with us but after the surgery he was never really the same mentally, he did regain his sight right after the surgery. The tumor was pressing against his optic nerve. But it's like he died in those days, because he was never the same brother I grew up with mentally. He eventually became a crack head because he couldn't hold a job and not "right" and is currently in prison. :brokenheart:

When you say "drugs" .. any chance she was seeing someone for depression and was on prescription drugs?

Sometimes when a new prescription or change occurs ... it can take a while to build up in the system before side effects present themselves.
