That looks more like the bedroom of a 7 year old, not a newborn :/

So you must have flowers and teddy bears for a newborn?

No, our daughter's room is very plain, in fact. So no, I don't belive you have to decorate with flowers and teddy bears And hey, whatever works for you guys is just fine. It just looks like a more mature bedroom.

The second choice for the room was a Clemson Tigers room.

I was going to get a protector and trace out a huge Clemson Tiger Paw and paint it. Have the base color as purple.

Then paint smaller tiger paws around the top as a border. My wife wanted the space theme more than a Clemson room. I figured that my kid going to all the football games as a child will be enough to brainwash him.

Looks nice and congrats!

How did you search for an artist and what was the cost?
I was thinking of getting something similar done (different theme).

Unfortunately we have popcorn ceilings. And judging by the sh*tty drywall work in the rest of the house, I am sure the ceiling joints suck. So I didn't want to scrap the popcorn down so we could paint the ceiling.

I also didn't want the room to be really dark.

We posted on Craigslist looking for a mural artist. We got a lot of people interested. Then we just meet with people in public places to see their portfolios.

Our artist charged $25/hour. For a total of $400 to do the room. I gave her $500 because she did a great job and was always on time.

Is the background wallpaper or painted walls?

It might be interesting if some of the stars/galaxies were luminescent.

It looks more like a haunted room, instead of a nursery.

Stars looks good, but those painting look not so good.

You should leave the stars and go and buy some solar system stickys (Stuff that doesn't permanently stick to the walls) for the room. Get also some glow in the dark stars also.

If you and your wife agrees to the room, then screw the others..
It's your baby.

You decided to share your ideas here, so I'm just giving you mine..

Good luck with the baby..

PS..

Get your money back from the artist...

The walls were painted with the purple/blue basecoat. The painter did all the major pieces of work. Then she went back and did all the little stars everywhere. So it is all paint.

Well maybe if you are an artist it doesn't look great but I think it looks awesome. Especially when you compare it to the images we asked her to "reproduce"

You should have given her Hubble's Ultra Deep Field. "I want this painted on the walls, down to every last quasar."

That's a hell of a painting job though.
My bedroom and computer room back home had a grand theme going: White. That's about it.

I am more of a Battlestar Galatica kind of guy. Maybe TNG if I was forced to pick a ST show.

Instead of painting the ceiling, do what Anand did and put fiber optic "stars" in a random pattern. Now that would be a nerd nursery!

We were thinking of getting something like this for the ceiling.
