No cliffs will be provided.....

My wife and I are lucky enough to have our first child on the way. His due date is Nov 10th. It took lots of patience and doctor visits to make it happen but it finally did.

My wife and I had to discuss what we wanted for a nursery. I just don't like the teddy bear type of stuff. We are both science oriented people. My wife having her master's in chemistry and me being a wannabe astrophysicist with no background or basis for it(yeah I only have a degree in computer science).

We decided to do a outer space themed nursery. However, we didn't want a cartoony look. We picked some photos from the hubble telescope and started our adventure to find an artist to do the work. We found our first artist and she as a nice enough lady. She had a good portfolio. Unfortunately, she didn't show three times in a row. My wife being pregnant started to panic that we wouldn't get the room done in time or we wouldn't be able to get what we wanted done. I started over with my search for another artist. Sometimes I wonder how in the world things work out. The artist I found was just awesome. She was a college student but was beyond professional and did a knockout job. I couldn't be happier with the results.

First off, I have to show off my son from this past weekends ultrasound. He decided to show me what he thinks of the whole deal right now.

Yes that is him giving me the bird......

Now for a whole slew of photos of the nursery.....

All regular paint. No glow in the dark. You guys must have been pansies as kids. I would have loved to have stuff like this in my room.

Do you really think an infant is going to know or fear things like that? It is typically the imagination of a child that gets the best of them. And considering the baby will grow up with that on the wall, there won't be fear associated with it.

Hell I look back at the sports wall paper my mom put up. There were some evil looking cartoon kids but I never noticed as a kid because it had always been there.

It'd be cool if you were 5 and actually had some sort of basic idea of what it was. But for an infant it seems a little over the top.

Best wishes on a fast and drama free delivery though! Get your sleep now...you'll forget what it's like the first 4 months or so after the little guy comes home.

My only concern was the darkness background color. But that room gets the most light of the house and it is actually pretty bright during the day.

Once again, growing up with something, a kid will not have fear of it. It is one thing to take a 4 year old who has had teddy bears on the wall and put something like that behind them. it is nother thing to let a child grow up with crazy stuff on the wall. It will be normal for a child if he grows up with it on the wall.

This would be awesome for a kid into space exploration but it seems it more for you guys at this point.
I think infants respond better to reds, blacks, and whites but we kept our kids' rooms sort a soothing color with some vinyl stickers. When they get old enough they can decorate how they please.

Oh my goodness. :Q That is all I can say. That has to be the most amazing nursery I have ever seen. I think the best part is that because it is not "cartoony" your little boy will be able to grow up with it the same way and have the need to paint over it.

My best wishes to yourself and wife for a wonderful birth expereince when the time comes in a few months.

Oh trust me. The moment the kid wants to paint the room. The kid can paint the room. Except he will be moving into my office. Same room, just right next door and I will move my office into there.

My kid will be allow to paint or decorate his room however he wants. I don't want to limit my child's imagination or desire to have his room however he wants.

BTW I don't think there is anything wrong with teddy bears and flowers for an infant. The more you push them towards something the more they resist anyway. What you do or don't put on the walls probably won't affect their imagination much.

Anyway these minor concerns will be out of the window as soon as your son gets home. I bet you won't have time to care about the room for the next 3 years or so. Congratulations and enjoy the new addition to your family.

Based on him flipping me off, I think it will be F' you. Especially with my wife's potty mouth.

Looks like you had fun! At early ages it's more about a parents interests than the child's anyway. But whether the visuals are black hole's and nebulae or paddington or pooh bear there is no inherent cause for 'fear' in either as the child will have grown up familiar with the surroundings.

Best Wishes!

So you must have flowers and teddy bears for a newborn?

No, our daughter's room is very plain, in fact. So no, I don't belive you have to decorate with flowers and teddy bears And hey, whatever works for you guys is just fine. It just looks like a more mature bedroom.
