Baby snake in an acorn

I found this baby snake in an acorn a few weeks back in my yard. It was kind of neat to see such a small snake and see it hiding in an acorn.

looks like a rough earth snake to me, but with the coloring on the head I'm not sure. I think the ring would be farther back if it was a ring neck.

It is found from Texas and Iowa to New Jersey and Florida.

They tend to stay pretty small. Full grown adults only reach around 13 inches.
