The parents are idiots. But I still have one question: why didn't the midwife call for an ambulance or report it?

I am curious to this as well. I don't know about Michigan law, but I would think she could be charged for not reporting it immediately.

The parents failed to exercise due diligence on behalf of the newborn and should bear the full brunt of their actions. In Hosea 4:6 God states that people perish for lack of knowledge and here's a perfect example of it in action. These two get the Darwin award.

They need to die for a Darwin award. But we can always hope.

looks like she told the mother. the midwife probably thought the mother's concern would be enough to push the daughter into going to the hospital. how long does a midwife stick around after birth?

That's a very good question and I think that it varies depending on the circumstances. In the FAQ I found they state 3-5 hours is the norm. The midwife acted ethically by informing the parents of her observations and they chose to ignore it endangering the newborn ultimately killing it through ignorance.

She was not obligated to remain there as the parents assumed responsibility for the child at birth and if they had followed her advice this tragedy could've been averted. If only it were legal to sterilize stupid people to prevent further instances like this.

So per this post and your signature you're advocating the sterilization of "retarded people." You also called for their incarceration in a previous post. Geez, dude. Nazi much?

This is an old one, but very pertinent:

A very religious man was once caught in rising floodwaters. He climbed onto the roof of his house and trusted God to rescue him. A neighbour came by in a canoe and said, “The waters will soon be above your house. Hop in and we’ll paddle to safety.”

“No thanks” replied the religious man. “I’ve prayed to God and I’m sure he will save me”

A short time later the police came by in a boat. “The waters will soon be above your house. Hop in and we’ll take you to safety.”

“No thanks” replied the religious man. “I’ve prayed to God and I’m sure he will save me”

A little time later a rescue services helicopter hovered overhead, let down a rope ladder and said. “The waters will soon be above your house. Climb the ladder and we’ll fly you to safety.”

“No thanks” replied the religious man. “I’ve prayed to God and I’m sure he will save me”

All this time the floodwaters continued to rise, until soon they reached above the roof and the religious man drowned. When he arrived at heaven he demanded an audience with God. Ushered into God’s throne room he said, “Lord, why am I here in heaven? I prayed for you to save me, I trusted you to save me from that flood.”

“Yes you did my child” replied the Lord. “And I sent you a canoe, a boat and a helicopter. But you never got in.”

So then the religious man asked God: "Then why did you create me as such a god damned stupid assed mofo?"

And the Lord replied: "Because I thought it would make a funny story to pass around the internet."

Added a couple of lines. Feel free to add some more.

Where'd you get that from? Tertullian? Augustine? Personally never heard of trusting midwives over god. You realize midwives are typically female? Name a religion that doesn't make them second class people, inferior. Seems unlikely that they'd privilege their will over that of any man, never mind that of the dictator himself.

They said send us a sign. God sent the midwife, who said 'the kid is dying, take it to the hospital."
they said "no". God said fuck you then the kid dies.

The end.

That poor child. My youngest went through a bout of jaundice after his birth and spent about 24 hours in the hospital to get rid of it.

Why didn't they just keep her outside and not feed her? God makes no mistakes after all.

God doesn't absolve you of using your judgment and intellect.

God bless her and keep her.

I agree with this. If they think God is gonna handle the child then why didn't they just leave it in the afterbirth and go home?

Sick people.

I don't get the "God will take care of everything" mentality that Christians have today. My dad had a buddy who was a devout Christian. He developed prostate cancer. My dad repeatedly told him to seek medical help. He refused "God will take care of me." My dad was like "God created the doctors so they could help us" you dumb ass. He died a few months later.

Eh I don't think Christians are generally that idiotic. Not a Christian is born who hasn't heard the parable about the guy stuck on his roof amid a rising flood, refusing repeated offers of help by saing God will save him. Then when he drowns he demands that God explain why he wasn't saved and God essentially replies, "You're a F'ing idiot, you know that?"

God works through intermediaries.

Most definitely. When you're chosen, it's red carpet. He's just lucky he didn't have to carry a child.
