I have a DMA2100 and stream AVI's to it. I convert the MPEG's to DIVX then use FourCC changer to modify the header so that it thinks its in XVID format.

Unfortunately I bought it a month before when Newegg had it for $150

Damn you...been resisting your thread for months now.

Just nabbed the DMA2200 from Dell for $99.04 after +shipping +tax -15%E&A -3%DPA
I need to figure out how I will explain the need for this to the wife
Anyways, been wanting an upconverting DVD player for the 26" HD in the living room. Have the VMC upstairs in the bedroom on 27" SD tv. Going to throw all the music on the house on the VMC too. No cable anymore, Comcast went all digital here so just have OTA, but we do get Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS, CW, PBS, and 3 local independents. So not too bad really. I just need to get a couple more converter boxes for the stray tvs without one, and put 2 on the VMC for all the digital channels.

Thanks OP, MS should hire you as their spokesperson for these things!

Although considering the low interest for these things and these deflated prices, I don't think there is much money in this market segment.

So do you have to use a PC with Media Center installed? What if I just wanted to stream videos from Win XP Pro x64? Don't really have an extra machine to setup for media center but this looks like a great deal.

I think it has to be Vista Home Premium or Ultimate. XP Media Center edition MAY work but I have no real idea. XP pro will not.

These will work with Vista-based Media Centers only (Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate). For a non-Vista machine, you have to get a more expensive D-Link DSM-750 or HP x280n.

I got my DMA2200 today, the next day after placing a phone order. That is an extremely fast turnaround. I wouldn't know if the packaging is any different from the higher priced SKU, but I doubt it is.

The manufacturing date on the unit is 02/2008. Yes folks, that's how bad the market for these things is. No wonder the price is so low now. A 9-month shelf life for a technology product is certainly not a good sign.

Looks like the lower-priced SKUs are now gone from Dell's site. I am glad a jumped in. I hooked up and tested mine, and am satisfied with the performance. It seems to play AVIs better than the D-Link I have had.

I think the D-Link will have to go. It wll pay for the DMA2200 and even put some cash into my pocket. Plus, I am getting a DVD player in my bedrom which I have not had since the cheap one I had previously broke.

Very nice deal at Newegg right now:
DMA2200 in a combo deal with your choice of that WOW game, 2 different 250GB drives, an HP AIO, GoW2 X360, GTAIV X360, or a couple software utilities for free. Wireless N router for $130 more, Vista Home Premium x64 for only $30 more.

Checked on the AIO and it had free shipping

Very true.

If you were thinking about getting a DMA2200 and actually have a need for a hard drive or a printer, do not hesitate to jump onto that deal. You will basically be getting a HD or an AIO printer for $30 over what the DMA2200 alone cost at Dell last week. And the Dell deal is currently dead.

What advantages does a Media Extender have over an Xbox360 (it is a media extender in its own, right?)

Any clarification would be great.

If I could link to a specific message, I would. But I can anly say - read the rest of the thread. I think most of the differences have been discussed.

Can you repost the links on the dell site for the lower prices. All I can find now is the DMA 220 for $169.99 and the 2100 for $119.99?

Read the post a few posts above yours.

I just updated the title, so people don't get confused.

Off topic: Looking at my previous few posts, I should do a better job proofreading my typing. :disgust:

You should be a little more anl with your proofreading

Got my DMA2200 today--setting up while chomping down on dinner and ordering an HDMI cable (the Gamecube stays on the component video hookup longterm).

This is probably going to force my hand at some point to completely upgrading...everything. Thanks!

...will need some HD OTA tuners, will need more horsepower for that...more gooder everything!

Oh, the bitter taste of DRM! Got it all setup...popped in Iron Man DVD to test out the upconverting DVD playback...ohoh! copyrighted material is being played back! your screen resolution will be lowered until it is done being played back.

&^%$#@$@*

WTF is the point of an upconverting DVD player on an HDTV if it lowers to 480P? My 5 year old Daewoo already played back at this resolution!

Maybe it will work when I get my HDMI cable from cablesforless.com, but the damage from this blood pressure spike will last forever...&^T%#AAARRrrrfFFGGGHHH

edit: supposedly it should be fine with HDMI...shall see... *deep breath*

This $59 deal made the front page at another deals site. Most likely, it will not last long.

According to the just mentioned site, there is also a deal at Central Computers (Link) for $21 + shipping after a $125 rebate. This is an absolutely crazy deal if you are adventurous enough to trust rebates now. I would not risk $125 for a $35 savings.

EDIT: They also have DMA2200 for $61 + shipping after the same $125 rebate.

There is no no-rebate deal on this model right now, but:
1) I have never heard of Central Computers before
2) I get no love from either Newegg or my CC for the $90 in the three rebates that got recently denied for "no UPC".
3) So, the rebate deal would still be a no go for me.

Bump

Dell has a "10 Days of Deals" going again. Tomorrow (Day 9, Wednesday March 19th) they have the Linksys DMA2200 listed. Considering how high prices have been on these things (Newegg has it for $299.99!! and I haven't seen any near $100 lately) this could be a hot deal. Won't know the price until tomorrow.

Love my DMA2200 so far. Remote is kind of crappy (have to aim fairly accurately) and bootup time is probably a minute, but otherwise it's plenty responsive enough and the dvd upconversion works quite nicely.
Even has me interested in adding more extenders, a WHS, and an HDHomerun at some point. And this is all with using digital converter boxes for my whopping 15 OTA channels.

Would the price update at midnight or some time in the morning?
