jlin, if you want to be able to use your own fan or just to save a few bucks then get the AMD HSF, otherwise the AC unit is pretty nice. BTW,
here's a mATX system where the Arctic Cooling unit will not fit. I'm using one of the AMD units with a Thermaltake Starforce fan.
For removing OEM thermal paste I just use tissue and elbow grease - basically I just rub it off with tissue and some effort. I don't obsess over any leftover stuff. These things actually do use thermal compound and not the waxy or rubbery stuff that sucks.

Something that Ive always kinda wondered...these heatpipe coolers use a liquid that evaporates and gets cooled by the HS/F returns to liquid and drops back down to get evaporated again. Sounds all cool in theory, but how the ****** can these work when mounted sideways? Are you guys laying your computers on their sides? If not how is this providing any better cooling than a standard heatsink?
I've actually wondered about this myself. Don't sweat it too much because modern heatpipes are designed to be near 100% effective no matter how they are oriented because of the various effects of surface tension, capillary action and wicking... the interior of the heatpipe surface has "something" on it to help the liquid equalize to the hot end, often a metallic sponge-like coating.
