There is a sticker on the back of mine (which was in english, not german) which says "Palm Vx OEM replacement seriial #".

So does that mean its a referb? The unit looks to be in pristine condition (basically new)?

However, it didn't have a screen cover... It did have what appears to be a new cradle, powersupply, and carrying case.

Update: I sent an e-mail to overstock.com inquiring about the sticker and the OEM/Used/Refurbished question... They replied stating:
these are new items direct from IBM.

Mine looks too new for me to really question that statement, other than the sticker.

I got mine today and it is OEM, not retail, so the only warranty is through the distributor. The Ac adapter was used and the unit itself appears to be a refurb. The manual is a few xeroxed pages and the software is burned on a CD-R. Back to overstocks with you.

Got mine today also - it's also an OEM, but everything looks new. The manual is a cheap copy & the software is on CDR, but, for ~$90, I'm not complaining. The included leather case is pretty nice, and the unit is small & sharp.

Overall, I'm satisfied.

Ok, this is what what member ajmrn30 wrote over at www.fatwallet.com about his experience. I'm reposting it here because I thought it had a lot of good information.

I just spoke with a CSR at overstock.com (Phone: 1-800-989-0135) and told her that I was disappointed with my order. I told her the unit arrived in a plain white (beat up) box, the DB-25 adapter was missing, the leather case was not the original case that went with this unit, there was no owner's manual, and that my unit appeared to have been pre-owned.

She took all of the information and apologized for the problems. She said they would send me (via e-mail) an RMA number and a prepaid UPS mailing label to return it. I will get a full refund and not incur any restocking fees.

Hope that helps those of you who are unsatisfied. I'm going to wait until I get mine to decide what to do.

they didnt mention anything about it being OEM/refurb or whatever!
PLUS my C3 already had a scratch on the casing when i got it!

what a shady place.

they include a bundled burned CDR?!

DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM!!! PERIOD!

OEM-Original Equipment Manufacturer
means its probably coming direct from a manufacturer instead of in a retail box w/all stuff in the retail box

I received my C3 today. Came without leather flip, but instead has this other bigger leather case for the whole thing. All parts wrapped in plastic, look new, no scratches. No plastic on the glass of the palm, but the unit itself looks pristine. The software is on a CDR, but the rest of it looks good. Haven't turned it on yet, still charging...

I decided to keep mine. After futher review of the unit and accessories it appears that I recieved what I ordered.

What I got, all in pristine order, which I consider new:
IBM C3 (Palm Vx OEM) in English (if it was in german I would have sent it back)
Hotsync Cradle - Serial Version (Isn't a DB-9 adapter just the technical name for a serial adaptor?)
Power Adapter (which plugs into the serial plug of the cradle)
Desktop Software (on a burned CD-R)
Install Manual (Xerox or printout of acrobat file on cd-r)
DB-9 Adapter (see hotsync cradle above)
Leather Case (Yes the big one built to hold credit cards and a cell phone... Which I can buy in my local office depot for $40)
2 Stylus, one metal and one plastic.

Honestly other than the OEM vs. New Retail, I got what was advertised.

I'm actually considering buying another one.

This thread just caught my eye.

I didnt buy one.

But those who did, and didnt get what you wanted (used, copied software, ect) Why didnt you write a review stating this, on the Overstock web page? I clicked the link to see if it states refurb, Used, New, ect...and I see nothing about customer reviews.

I might help potential customers to know your problems with this item, if you post a Customer Review.

Just my 2 1/2 cents...

PS it does show-

This item comes in a white non-retail box.

Shipping: Ships within 2 business days
Warranty: 90 days - distributor
Model No: 3C Workpad
Dimensions: 0.4 in. x 4.5 in. x 3.1 in.

This is what i'm talking about. You could get a brand new handspring visor edge for just above $100, with all the better features to go along with it. Why spend the same amount for some OEM, refurb, low-end pda?

i have had great experiences from overstock, they have credited me for lost merchandise, returned broken/non functional merchandise at their cost and have always replied quickly to customer service inquiries

Well, I attempted to leave a negative review for this on Overstock. Personally I think they only let the favorable or at least not terrible reviews go through.

I rated my experience a 2 as my workpad I recieved is in Chinese or something. I haven't yet determined if it works or not as it is still charging. I don't think I recieved a DC9 adaptor but as I don't know what one is currently I guess I can't be sure.

I recieved an asian text workpad (seems likely new). A connecting cable and a power cable that connects to the connecting cable. A plastic and metal stylus and a fairly ugly organizer (glue shows) that I won't use as it's too big to put in my pocket. It is the one that holds a cell phone btw. No instructions.

I'm thinking this is going to be a return.

This is a reason I like "thread crapping". I would have preferred I had read from someone before buying this that Overstock is shadey. I jumped on this before it was mentioned.

Ok. Got a hold of customer service. Seemed fairly agreeable. Just told them that I got an asian language one and the rep set me up a return shipping label and put another on order for me requesting they look at the thing first.

I'll stop worrying completely once this is all settled though as now I have two charged on my credit card.

based on responses:

This item may be the japanese version. Also, I noted that they direct shipped from their vendor. I havent checked my units yet BTW.

To change the language you may need to purchase the upgrade to Palm OS 4.1 from the palm store? Just a guess.

Nevermind, I did a debug mode install of OS 3.5 and now it's in English. I still have to send back the DOA one I got, definitely getting a refund.

The rep offered to have someone help me change the OS to be English. Don't imagine it was an OS upgrade though as that would cost them more. There is still physical asian text underneath the glass however which an OS change wouldn't fix. As they wouldn't offer a discount to accept the asian text product, I'm getting an exchange.

For those getting the asian language versions: are these like the Japanese Palm VXs that have 4MB of flash rom instead of 2?

I thought they were all supposed to have 8 megs of memory?

Never used a palm before so I don't know how to check the amount of flash rom. I gave up trying to navigate the thing as I can't read the language.

The original American English ones are 8 megs Storage RAM and 2 megs Flash ROM.

The original international one are 8 megs Storage RAM and 4 megs Flash ROM. The increased Flash ROM of the international ones is to allow it to handle multiple languages. I.e. the european one has english, german, french and spanish I believe, and thus requires 2+ megs Flash ROM to accomidate the additional 3 languages.

HELP!! I never received my C3. My package included an AC adapter, a copy of the manual, the leather case and the CDR with the software on it. WHAT CAN I DO???? Will overstock.com believe me when I tell them??? I'm really worried, help me!

How heavy was your entire shipment? Maybe that could be evidence that they didn't include it. If they DID include it in the package, then it was stolen or lost or something! What can I do about that? The package was VERY poorly taped, the front was free to open, they just wrapped the sides in tape. HELP!

Geee, sure sounds like this deal was worth it (sarcastic)
People getting asian versions, or obvisouly refurbished, or not even being in the package! Like I posted twice already before... happy with a NEW visor edge for only a few dollars more, that included the recent BB $25 mir.
