At stock, the card is about equivalent to a 7800GT....which is already a league above my card. I think I may keep it for my main rig...

X1900 AIW > X1800XT > Nvidia 7800GTX

I don't think so. In newer games like FEAR, maybe. In oher games, the performance is horrible. It's more in line with an x1800xl.

Uh, yeah right. I suppose at stock speeds X1800XT 512MB > X1900 AIW > 7800GTX 256MB. But the X1800XL is not in the same league. Maybe you can find a review that shows them close in some obscure situation but ask anyone which card they'd take home and you know the answer. Same goes for the 7800GT.........

I've had the following cards. x1800xt 512mb, 7800gt, 7800gtx, x1900 AIW.

You can benchmark the x1900aiw faster in some games and synthetic benchmarks because of it's shader performance. But other than that, performance is the same as an x1800xl. Did you not look at the link? Every single test it's on par with an x1800xl.

Oh, I believe $150 for this card is a very very good deal. I bought mine at $230 and still thought it was a good deal.

But like I said, don't expect x1800xt level performance because you're not going to get it.

Don't forget that Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements (included software with the X1900 AIW) are worth $80-$100 total.

I greatly appriciate all the links and info. Would you advise against the Zalman for another route, as obviously the cooling is insufficent for OCing.

What is the physical difference b/w the aiw /xt/xtx, memory?

Will I notice marked performance improvement from my 9700pro?

A Zalman should be more than sufficient for overclocking. Don't let my experience deter you from going that route. My particular card couldn't go 30mhz over core. I consider that bad. And my memory wouldn't go 50mhz over core even with ramsinks. I believe I just had a crappy card for overclocking.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by physical difference, but in terms of memory clockspeed, the xt is clocked almost 500mhz higher than this aiw version. That's a lot of missing fillrate.

You won't notice any performance difference from your 9700pro jk, of course it'll blow it out of the water!

I have both the 512MB X1800XT and the AIW X1900XT and I can tell you that the X1900 AIW is the better card. Just from benchmarking the cards without OCing the AIW wins. But the X1900 AIW OC's like crazy while the X1800XT doesn't seem to OC very well. I sell custom systems and I've tested 3 X1800XT's from 2 differnet companies and 4 X1900 AIW's. There is no unlocking with the AIW X1900; it's a downclocked X1900XT. It only differs in clockspeed and amount of ram. I have OC'd my X1900 AIW to 645/1220 stable.

No way... What games are you benching these two cards against? Sure the X1900 AIW will slaughter the X1800XT in some tests, but in the majority of the tests the X1800XT is much better than the X1900 AIW.
People above this post have proved it and added all those links.

Of course the upgrade will require a new motherboard (and possibly processor) as I'm pretty sure the 9700pro's didn't come in PCI-Express.... that is, assuming you don't have a motherboard that has both an AGP and PCIe slot.

Essentially, I'm considering buying this card as a purely gaming replacement to my 7600GT, and selling off my 7600GT to basically have this card for less than $25.

Not really comparable. At stock the x1900xt is a good 50% faster. Tremendous value though.

Text compares it to 7800 gt.

Deal looks dead now. I'm guessing a pricing error.

I had no intention of upgrading my video card until I saw this thread. Too bad this deal died so quickly, I definitely would have jumped on it if it was still alive when I got here

yeah, I wasn't even looking to upgrade until the next gen cards come out, but for $150 (and I've always kind of wanted a TV tuner to play with), I definitely would have bitten.

The deal might not be dead. A friend of mine was checking up on his order beacuse it was stuck on processing. The guy told him that they will be recieving more cards to sell at 149.00. I would check the site again today if you missed out. Mine shipped. WOOHOO!!!

That's why I was asking about overclocked performance, which can be comparable (bar memory). I know exactly how fast the card is at stock compared to an X1900XT.

As I said on the first page, I've overclocked my X1900 AIW to 605 core / 640 mem (Zalman VF700-AlCu, no overvolting), which is still slower than XT speeds but a 21% core increase and 33% mem increase at stock voltages.

Yeah, I noticed. Definitely sounds good, and would definitely whoop my 7600GT at those speeds. I'll probably buy a Zalman and slap it onto the card to keep it cool, so that should help as well. I wasn't sure at first, but now I can't wait
My order status is "packed". Hopefully I get it.
