how do you expect to get the $100 rebate? It says specifically "valid on purchases offered by Amazon.com only", and now the camcorder is offered by Office Depot...

Read through the thread, there's references on how to get it

BradOlson - Thx for the deal! Was talking about how I missed this deal with my 7 month pregnant wife and she gave me the thumbs up if I ever saw something similar. When I saw it back in stock I jumped on it...now I don't have to have it shipped to work

It's hosted here, scroll down to the Sharp camcorder and click on the "$100 mail in rebates" link.

Its a small world, isn't it?

I'm still hoping that I don't drop this thing and run, though, when I get in that delivery room.

Potential purchasers may want to check out a thread over at Chubby Wallet stating the $100 rebate is dead and will not be applied to any orders after 1/5/04. Note that this email was received after several people contacted Amazon CS and were told it would be no problem.

Not at all pleased with this...then again, I'm not about to give up just yet.

Personally, I would rather have a MiniDV than a Digital8.

Uses MiniDV tape. Typically they are 60 min SP mode, 90 in EP. The card is for stills or maybe low res video. It is best not to buy a video camera for its still capabilities.

Where's a good source for getting blank tapes? How about extra batteries and case? Thanks!!

This cam also uses SD memory so you don't have to mix your stills with your DV tape. The CCD sensor on the lens is pretty low quality at 680,000 pixels which is about half of standard 1.33 MegaPixel cameras.... In otherwords, pretty poor and not great for huge photos as it's top res is going to be approx a JPEG 640 x 480 : 50 which is good for web images, email, and small 3.2"x2.4" (640/200 x 480/200) wallets at 200dpi (minimum)... yeah pretty small, but at least you have the option. I would not print anything on photo paper less then the quality of 200dpi. I may enlarge the image for online photos or flyers but that's it.... 4X6 photos would be the most I would print on photo paper with this cam and that's pushing it.

To sum up the winded response, it's hard to find a jack of all trades out there so for the moment if your getting into photography and you want high res you should go with a 3 MP camera with at least a 3x zoom.... and that still wont get optimal 8x10s .. for that you need to move into 5MP+ to get a superiour image or the Fuji 3MP models like the F601 and S602 which renders the 3MP into 6MP in the camera. Anything slightly less is ok but can be noticed.

I don't know everything about imagery so I could be off a little but I do know that photography is a drug... get this cam for it's excellent price only and moving pictures... but be prepared to want to upgrade if your looking for a still cam.

:camera: my 2.5 cents :camera:

Ecost has Sony 10 Pack of Sony Premium DV Tapes (DV60PRL)
10 Pack of Sony Premium DV Tapes (DV60PRL) for $21.90 but buy a filler to get your amount over $25 for the free shipping.

Yes, I got those tapes in monday, along with the camera. The tapes - great deal, I also recommend the minidv head cleaner by JVC I believe, for 7 bucks.

The camera is great, it feels good, but one thing I dont like is the sound it makes when reading the tape: it sounds a little loud for a nice camera. Has anyone else experienced this sound, maybe its a flawed one..overall its good. I'm waiting for a firewire cable so I can try digital video editing and burning.

I ordered mine yesterday with a firewire cable... It's funny because the Firewire cable should be here by tomorrow, but the Camcorder is coming from Nevada so it'll be a while. (I selected the free shipping) Did you get this one RossMan?
