This cam also uses SD memory so you don't have to mix your stills with your DV tape. The CCD sensor on the lens is pretty low quality at 680,000 pixels which is about half of standard 1.33 MegaPixel cameras.... In otherwords, pretty poor and not great for huge photos as it's top res is going to be approx a JPEG 640 x 480 : 50 which is good for web images, email, and small 3.2"x2.4" (640/200 x 480/200) wallets at 200dpi (minimum)... yeah pretty small, but at least you have the option. I would not print anything on photo paper less then the quality of 200dpi. I may enlarge the image for online photos or flyers but that's it.... 4X6 photos would be the most I would print on photo paper with this cam and that's pushing it.
To sum up the winded response, it's hard to find a jack of all trades out there so for the moment if your getting into photography and you want high res you should go with a 3 MP camera with at least a 3x zoom.... and that still wont get optimal 8x10s .. for that you need to move into 5MP+ to get a superiour image or the Fuji 3MP models like the F601 and S602 which renders the 3MP into 6MP in the camera. Anything slightly less is ok but can be noticed.
I don't know everything about imagery so I could be off a little but I do know that photography is a drug... get this cam for it's excellent price only and moving pictures... but be prepared to want to upgrade if your looking for a still cam.
