From what I saw... you need to include a copy of the UPC with the Amazon $100 rebate, and the actual UPC for the $50 rebate. This has been confirmed by Amazon that both rebates are valid.

Mine just left from SPARKS, NV yesterday.

I quoted that from the site above (see first link in first post of this thread).

I don't know my legeleese but if you look at the rebate form...

-purchased from Amazon between 12-01-03 and 03-31-04
-Amazon has the right to discontinue this offer at any time (fine print at bottom)

It makes no sense at all. Basically any company could offer $300 rebates on their $301 product - sell a million of them and then tell all the people that bought them the rebate was discontinued?

I am going with the dates listed on the form as valid. The Sharpe $50 rebate does not expire until June so I am sending amazon a copy of my upc - and holding the other. If there is a problem with that I will send amazon my original UPC and take the $100 rebate over the $50 one.

when did you get this email reply, they told me its not valid if purchased after 1-5-04, but if you have writen validation for purchases after that date, then its a different story. i am no lawyer (although i do work for one of the biggest law firm around) but if they expend this to you, then they would need to do it for everyone

I just ordered the Pinnacle DV 8 kit from Circuit City. $100-$50 rebate = $50 total and you get PCI firewire card and Pinnacle DV Studio 8 which always gets nice reviews although I don't know if it is the most stable software around.

I know $50 isn't the best deal on a PCI firewire card but locally everything I was finding at Best Buy and stuff was $35-50 just for the card so I figured why not get some decent s/w with it.

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.

In looking into this situation, I was unable to find an Amazon.com
rebate for this item. However there is a $50.00 manufacturer
rebate. You can view the rebate at the following URLs:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000899VM.01.RB02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000899VM.01.RB03.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Click each coupon to enlarge; print it using your browser's "Print"
option. If several coupon pages are displayed, please make sure you
print and fill out all of them.

In the event that one of your purchases do qualify for both an
Amazon.com rebate and a manufacturer rebate, please note that most
manufacturers require that you send in the original UPC barcode.
However, a copy of the receipt, along with a copy of the UPC code,
will be accepted as proof of purchase when redeeming the Amazon.com
rebate.

As for the "Sharp VLZ3U MiniDV Camcorder with 2.5" LCD and Memory
Slot" manufacturer's mail-in rebate, you must submit a copy of the
original packing slip along with the original UPC code as proof of
purchase.

In addition, if you need a receipt to enclose with the rebate form,
you can print an invoice for your order by clicking the "Your
Account" link at the top of our web site and then selecting the
link to "Print invoices."

Not a bad little camera, especially if you can get the $100 rebate somewhere. Good for a casual videocamera user who just wants to take home movies of the kids, etc., and not pay for all the latest bells and whistles.

Don't bother to try to Ebay it, though, you've missed that wave; two were for sale there when this deal was posted, about thirty are now.

So, what is the final word? Can you get the $100 rebate, the $50 rebate, or both???

You're only gonna get the $50 rebate. A better deal is to buy the VL-Z5U from Beach Camera for $345 and after rebate you get it for $295.

Greetings from Amazon.com.

I apologize for any misunderstanding regarding the rebates for your
Sharp VLZ3U MiniDV Camcorder with 2.5" LCD and Memory Slot.

There was a $100.00 Amazon.com rebate for this item. However, we
removed this offer from our web site on January 5th because the
manufacturer had also begun offering a rebate that required the
original UPC and individuals who purchased the camcorder did not
quality for both rebates. The price for the camcorder was also
reduced at this time. As such, no submissions for the Amazon.com
rebate will be honored on purchases made after January 5, 2004.

We are aware that other web sites sometimes post Amazon.com rebates;
however, these sites do not always reflect the most current
information on our web site. Your submission will not be honored
unless you include the original UPC for your camera.

If you need them, the forms for the manufacturer's $50.00 rebate can
be printed from the following URL's:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000899VM.01.RB02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000899VM.01.RB03.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Please note that some e-mail systems do not allow you to connect
directly to a URL that is included in the e-mail text. You may,
however, copy and paste the URL into your web browser to reach this
page. If the link is more than one line long in the e-mail, please
be sure to copy the entire link before accessing the URL (you may
need to copy it in two parts).

Click each coupon to enlarge; if it is not legible when you first
click on it, move your mouse to the lower right-hand corner of the
coupon and click again to enlarge the coupon further. Print the
form using your browser's "Print" option. If several coupon pages
are displayed, please make sure you print and fill out all of them.

If you experience any difficulty, please contact us by visiting
http://www.amazon.com/contact-us, and we'll be happy to fax or mail
you a copy of the coupon.

Also, if you need a receipt to enclose with the rebate form, you can
print an invoice for your order by clicking the "Your Account" link
at the top of our web site and then selecting the link to "Print
invoices."

If you have any further questions, please visit our Help pages:

Again, I apologize for any misunderstanding, and thank you for

I missed out on this deal the first time so I've been looking for other miniDV camcorder deals.

I really liked the Sharp form factor, so I've mostly been looking at the VL-Z models.

Amazon's price is now $329 - $50 rebate = $279. No tax for me in California, free super-saver shipping

Buydig.com has it for $299 - $50 rebate = $249. No tax, free UPS ground

Costo B&M is selling it for $379 + tax. I called Sharp's rebate center, and they confirmed that the rebate will be approved even though Costco is not an "Authorized Retailer"

Now, I was also looking at getting the VLZ-7U. The prices for that camcorder are $539, $429, and $449 (online only, for me) , respectively at the above listed sellers.

In the end, I decided to buy the VLZ-7U from Costco. Final cost: $495.20 - $50 MIR = $445.20

Even though the price is about $70 higher (after tax and shipping), Costco has an excellent return policy. It's kind of like buying an extended warranty. If anything goes wrong, I can just take it back to a Costco B&M store and exchange it or get a full refund.

Or I can simply return it at any time if I'm not completely happy with the camera.

Others may disagree, that is their right. I'm just posting this to inform some people of the options available.

Im so confused I looked at the detailed specs on sharps page and between the Z3U Z5u and Z7U there is almsot NO difference other then the fact that the Z3U has no remote control, extended microphone input or a built in flash.

I mean thats hardly anything at all.

I did in fact get both the $50 rebate & the $100 rebate from amazon as well as the $20 price adjustment.

Final price was $179.99.

I had to email back & forth a few times with rebatesatus.com & had to call amazon more than once, also had full documentation as well.

I resent my rebate materials to rebatestatus.com & amazon finally did in fact issue the $100 rebate. I got it about a week ago & deposited immediately as the expiration on the check validity date was by the end of this month.

They obviously didn't want to do it & were counting on people to just give up.

I never did!

Z5U has color viewfinder, Z3U black/white. Z7U is 1.3 megapixel with flash and zoom mic.
