Hey tigereye,

This set is being sent out from Ohio. You should be able to get it the same day with the cheapest groud shipping! Mine came to $7.84 to Philadelphia. I should be able to get this in 2 days or so.

Sorry if this is off topic everyone. But, I need help!!

My daughter got Sims2 for X-Mas and it requires a 800mhz or faster CPU with a Direct X 9.0C video adapter and 256mb or memory.
Will this Semprom 2500+ Combo work for her?

Trying to keep the cost down. Will this work as well?
Link...

Which is better and which would cost more in the long run? (considering I'd need new memory)

Thank you in advance.

Since the Sim2 requires...

a minimum 32mb video card with a T & L chipset,

ATI Radeon 7200 or greater
NVidia GeForce2 or greater

Any suggestions on where I can find a decent one cheap?
I hate to spend lots of $$ just to play a dumb game.

I thought I'd check fleabay.

TIA,

Jesse

No, the original radeon had no number with it.

Check out the FS/FT forum. I am guessing that you can get a Geforce2 card for under $25.

Hey Jes,

I'll answer anything for a man looking out for his kid. Duron is an excellent chip. However, due to lack of L2 cache or shall I say smaller cache, and lower clock speed, its performance will not be as good as the Sempron 2500+ combo. Besides, the Sempron is based on the infamous Thoroughbred B core (well, infamous about 2~3 years ago). It is still an excellent core. I have Athlon XP2100+ which has the same core (and has the comparable performance with this Sempron), I can overclock it to 2.4Gig stable at 1.825 VCore, and it runs so cool. I don't know the overclockiing potential to this Sempron, but its performance, stock, is not too far behind the XP2500+ Barton in all aspects (I read a recent review).

Anyway, I know that the Duron combo is around $50, but spend the extra $25 and get the Sempron2500+. I think it will be worth every penny. Besides, once you get a computer cpu, its not something you'll want to swap out in a month or so (unless you have the money and desire for the latest bleeding edge technology, in which case you wouldn't be buying this in the first place). You'll have it for a while.

I hope everything works out well for you. Happy New Year everyone.

Hey Keltron, I think I know what you are asking, and I believe the original is the Radeon 7000, not 7200. But, I think they are the same. I could be wrong, but even the just "Radeon" ones were 7000s. I actually have a brand new ATI Radeon 7000 still in its original box in its plastic wrapper in front of me.

Crimson117, you don't speak for everyone here. This Hot Forum is for people who "hate to spend lots of $$" for any stuff for anyone for any purpose in their lives. Besides, it is not Jes who is going to play that game, but his DAUGHTER! So, just chill-out and be nice to eveyone, especially during this season of giving and sharing.

There were pre-7000 radeons, called Radeon 32mb, Radeon 64mb, and All-In-Wonder Radeon (I had one of these). You can read about them at ATi's discontinued products page.

Yeah, I have the Radeon 32mb SDR (PCI card). I paid $100 for it a few years ago at BB. I thought even these had the 7000 core. Crimson117, no hard feelings, okay, buddy? Happy New Year to you.

Hey, it was just a joke! I don't buy anything that's out of my budget, nor would I ever recommend excessive hardware to someone else. Some of us are gamers who spend too much money on video cards, and we're here for deals that make them slightly less (but still too) expensive Others are here to find affordable parts for budget computers. Some of us are here for both reasons (look at my comment above about my sis's computer) .

That's quite possible! I have no knowledge of which core the 32mb/64mb used, I just know they weren't labeled 7xxx. Happy new year to you too! I hope santa brought radeon 7200's for everybody!

There are two combos at the outpost site for $75. One combo has the kt333 board, and the other has kt600.

Where's the KT600 combo? Can't seem to find it?

Nevermind, just found it. Must have somehow missed it on my first scan thru.

Thanks, just ordered the KT600 combo deal. Replacing an Abit KG7-RAID (not using RAID though) and AMD XP 1800+ with this. Will also have to upgrade to DDR, any hot DDR deals for this combo? Don't plan to OC.

Hopefully it will speed the system up some.

Just search the hot deals forum for PC3200, and you'll find tons of deals on 1x512mb or 2x512mb PC3200 DDR for about $65 / per 512mb stick.

An xp 2200 is faster then a than a semptron 2500
this is an 'ok' deal but...

KT880 or SIS748 chipset board, XP2200+, and cheap effective heatsink would go for about $110 on pricewatch and be alot faster

but if its for grandma or something mine as well
