Backup Software

I have a 160gb external hard drive that I intend to use for backing up music, movies, documents, etc. but doing it manually is a real pain. I'm looking for a piece of software that will let me specify certain directories to backup to the external.

For instance, I have a directory of photos that I take with my digital camera...ideally I could automatically check for changes (eg. new pictures) and backup any changes to the external. Hell, even if it required me to hit "go" it would still be better than having to manually transfer anything new.

I'm looking for this sort of "targeted" backup solution because I really don't need to backup an entire drive. Also, solutions on the cheap (read: free) would be great, if they even exist.

i use rsync for exactly this purpose.

I use Cobian Backup in simlar situation as I want the files to compressed. It should be able to do uncompressed backups also.

I use Acronis True Image for this purpose. It can back up as files and folders as the whole partition with any rate of compression. I dont know what price is appropriate to you but True Image is soled with $20 off now (Holiday Coupon Code "XMAS" - need to write in promotional field in shopping card on acronis.com ).

why not just use the windows backup software? it allows you to do what you want and come free with windows.

I used to use the windows backup utility, but now i use ezbackitup.
