backups - Ghost 12 vs Acronis True Image 10

Can anyone comment on Acronis True Image 10 vs Ghost 12 ? I've used older Ghost versions (like back when they stole it from PowerQuest and renamed it to Ghost). And I've used True Image 7, 8, and 9. My problem with Acronis is the slow sofware support, and they use a Linux kernal for the recovery software. Nothing against Linux, but they won't have support for the Intel P35 chipset for about six months. So, I'd have to make a separate boot disk from a shareware program that has nothing to do with Acronis.

Any insight would be appreciated (esp with Ghost 12).

I still use Ghost 2003 with a custom boot disk I made myself...

I haven't had any problems with backing up Win XP Pro & Vista Ultimate (both on their own NTFS partition.)

indeed, the lack of p35 support made me to install the whole pc all over again

As a personal view,
I have used both - at a place that deal with lots of images over a network - Ghost,
but personally, TrueImage.
I think Trueimage is great, but Ghost does the job as well - Go for the cheapest, but if you are going to go for Trueimage, then see if you can get an offer on DiskDirector too - great piece of sw.

I have used TrueImage for the past two or three versions due to it's support of RAID arrays. Prior versions of Ghost didn't like RAID arrays, although I can't say this for the current version as I haven't used it.

What about Acronis True Image 9? I have seen a good deal on a copy and wonder if it would be worth my time.

I use Ghost 2003 myself . TruImage is said to be excellent and easy to use, but I have not
tried it. If you decide to get the TruImage 9 just check first to see if it will work with Vista or not.
Otherwise, if and when you go to Vista, then you would need to update the program as well.
Ghost 12 does work with Vista ... the Acronis web site says V10 supports Vista, so I would
venture that V9 did not support Vista

just curious, had anyone try using acrnois true image and have issue with sata drives? we try that it fail when rebooting the pc to re image. will Norton work with those drives? norton 12 is there the universal restore that acrnois had?

Acronis True Image 10 supports Vista x64, while the last time I checked, the version of Ghost at that time didn't. True Image worked ok for me, but I only cloned one partition from an IDE drive to a SATA drive on an NForce4 chipset.

I have TI 10 - build 4294 in Vista. It is OK there, but it does have some minor Cloning problems that are easily taken care of.

At the conclusion of the clone operation (using the bootable Rescue Disk) the target drive often will not boot. The fix is easy -0 boot with the Vista DVD and do a Repair Install. It takes a few seconds to fix "PARTITION=NOT FOUND."
